I think a fine would be an overreaction by the league.

Re: Metta World Peace elbow to Harden
Yeah CCJ, I've seen it many times watching NBA. Player has a huge dunk, crowd goes crazy, adrenaline kicks in and in momentum he'll push/shove an opponent in his way. I remember Shaq getting ejected back when he played for the Lakers for doing this.
Of course, that doesn't justify what Artest did. A blatant elbow to the head, with force, is dangerous. I'd expect him to be suspended at least 5 games.

Prepare to be extremely surprised at how few people, especially the powers in the NBA League Office, agree.
He will lose a ton of money from missed games, JJ. Think Sprewell-esque loss of money for Artest (formerly MWP as far as I'm concerned).
Tre Johnson is the future of the Wizards.

Well, if some LA fans keep excusing the inexcusable, pretending it was unintentional, this thread is gonna have part II and III.

I was just posting the extreme opposite end of the pendulum, since some seem to be going overboard with the punishment they think he deserves. In reality, 5-10 games wouldn't surprise me.
Yes it was a strong hit. I think it's the concussion that seems to be getting people's panties all knotted up. Where was that passion when Wade gave Kobe a concussion and broken nose in a meaningless all-star game? That was called a personal foul. Whatever.....

some of the justification or straight up denial in here has been awe-inspiring.

Im surprised that OKC didnt send out their 12th man to knock Kobes ass out in retaliation. If they meet in the playoffs, it would be very, very interesting to see what happens.

That was within the confines of a play on the court.
Artest's elbow was not. He was celebrating and then was annoyed that Harden was in his space. And in his extremely hyped state, he unloaded the elbow with even more force than a normal chest beating celebration.
Even if you don't take his history into account (which is ridiculous anyway), he deserves 20+ minimum. You get 10-15 games for any type of fight where a punch is throw (eg, Carmelo and others in the Denver/NYK fight). This was much more dangerous.
There's also the fact that this wasn't the first incident between the two.

Because it's two completely different instances.
There was actually nothing technically wrong with what Wade did, he just kind of broke an unwritten rule that says you don't foul like that in an All-Star game. And he acted like a jerk after. But he didn't really do anything wrong. And it was an acceptable foul, with intent to stop a layup, and it wasn't an inherently dangerous foul, it just so happened that Kobe did get injured on that play.
Has nothing in common with what MWP did to Harden...at all.
It's obvious from reading this thread that some people just don't realize how dangerous shots to the head are. People die from getting hit hard enough in the head...it's no joke. If that hit landed just a little higher and connected with Harden's temple...we would probably be talking about something a lot worse than a concussion. The head is a really sensitive area, you don't go swinging your elbow as hard as you can into another guy's skull.

That should get tagged onto the suspension.
Someone bigger then him the same as he is bigger then Harden should get to stand next to him while he is handcuffed and gagged and just hold sucker elbow slam him in the head.
Plus at least 10 games
Actually, I have seen enough. The guy has serious mental issues with anger. End this freak show already. The guy is 32. The NBA should cut their loses and be thankful he didn't kill anyone.

lol...cant believe this thread is still going...anyway, i wouldn't be surprised if he gets suspended for the entire playoffs due to previous reputation, saying it was an accident when it wasn't, saying to Ibaka after the elbow and walking away when Ibaka was saying something to him... if i can read lips correctly "you want some of this" getting into a fighting stance with his fist ready to throw punches if needed...that shows aggression and Stern might look at that too.

Re: Metta World Peace elbow to Harden
The only thing pissing me off is every time something happens with the Lakers, fans of other teams act like it's the most vile thing to ever happen. I grew up watching the NBA from the late 70's on to now, and today what happen doesn't come close to the things I saw as a kid.SVictor wrote:DEEP3CL wrote:And sadly it's mostly the same rants just laid out differently. But at the same time there have been several Laker fans not praising what Metta did, and it's no reason to say he didn't intend to do it or he did intend to do it, because no one here is qualified enough to psycho analyze Metta. We don't know what the hell he was thinking coming out of that bucket he scored. The only thing we know is that he was fired up as hell, guys here killing Metta but why the f**k did Harden even put himself in front of a man known to explode ?
See no one can answer this, all I keep seeing is...." he was getting ready for the inbound pass", that bull sh*t. Because not one Thunder player was even standing out of bounds yet, so that's just some asinine thinking. But this thread has been over blown and it's never going to be a balance to agree on what played out.

Re: Metta World Peace elbow to Harden
One neutral NBA team member called World Peace's shot the worst thing he's seen on a court since Kermit Washington punched Rudy Tomjanovich.
It just so happened that Tomjanovich, who provides statistical analysis for the Lakers, walked into the media room shortly afterward. When a replay of World Peace's play was about to come on a TV monitor just above our heads, he turned away right before World Peace flung the elbow. Later, another replay came on. This time Tomjanovich caught it, then looked down. Tomjanovich said the reason his play still stands out four decades later is so many punches thrown since then have missed. Fortunately.

Agree 100%. Ive been watching NBA ball for over 20 years, and thats probably the worst thing Ive seen happen.
Ive seen all sorts of fights, punches, shoves, trips, knees, elbows, and countless dirty plays, but this is the worst.

Bro, it's clearly James Hardens fault for being in the way of Ron Artest' elbow.

omg, 78 pages for this. I don't condone what Artest did, but Harden does play the game like one of the players you just want to punch in the face, so I'm not surprised.

I dont think it was intentional but I don't know was he clearing space after the celebration? Whatever happened it is just one more excuse for the haters on this board in regards to the Lakers in general.
