Yovani Gallardo pitched 6 scoreless innings tonight. He gave up one hit and struck out 11.
He's now 5-1 on the year, with a 2.22 ERA and leads the league with 66 strikeouts. My God this kid's gonna be something special.

I can't wait till this kid is brought up. He did go 0-2 at the plate though. I guess that dream I had where he would actually be a hitting threat too was just a dream, but I will take that kind of pitching anyday. Does anyone know what pitches this guy uses and how hard he throws? Will all those strikeouts, he must have a hell of a breaking ball and a lively fastball. Too bad Braun didn't get back today though.

Low to mid 90's fastball and a great curve. He also throws a change and a slider.
He basically has great location with his fastball and has a very nice curve. Mix in the fact he can throw the other two pitches for strikes as well and you have a guy that minor leaguers simply can't deal with.
I've seen him compared to Mussina which makes a lot of sense to me.

Bush's worst inning is usually his first inning. Putting him in the bullpen wouldn't be the smartest thing to do I think.

Villanueva's been fantastic in the pen. If indeed another starter is needed, Gallardo will be brought up.
Villanueva can't yet handle 75+ pitch outings. The Brewers wouldn't change their whole bullpen up like that.
And to whoever said he can't wait until Bush is replaced, is wrong. Bush was our best pitcher last year, and is slowly getting there this year. Vargas is a free agent after this year and could very well possibly be traded by the deadline to make room for Gallardo.
The Brewers will be playing a double header against the Cardinals on July 28th, and they will need a 6th starter. I think it's fairly safe to say we may see Gallardo then.

Next year, Vargas is in his second year of arby and Bush his first.
I'd personally keep both around next year unless a nice trade comes up. They won't be that expensive and you can never have too much starting pitching.
Bush did struggle in the pen last year, but it was only 2 games and 2.2 innings. Who knows how he'd do there full time.

I don't think we necessarily need a designated long man. CV can be both a 6th-7th inning a guy and a guy that can give you 3-5 innings if need be. If Latin Cappy comes back up at some point, he can do the same. If we have two guys in the pen that can do both roles then we would be covered.
It seems really pointless to me to keep a guy who may pitch only once every week and a half instead of having another position player, especially given how often our starters go late into games. With our platoon situation, it makes much more sense to have late game options on the bench.
