"Hayden Smith has signed with the Jets!” Brewster, who used to coach at the University of Minnesota, tweeted on Tuesday. “Really think this guys upside in the NFL is huge!"
The 6-7, 240-pound Smith is projected to be a tight end. He played Division 2 basketball at Metropolitan State in Denver before making the U.S. national rugby team.

Re: The Official 2012 New York Jets Offseason Thread
Bears fan here. What direction do you guys think the Jets will go in the first round of the draft? OL, DE/LB, WR. I'm hoping that some way Floyd drops to the Bears. If Upshaw and Floyd are both on the board at 16, which one do you think the Jets will pick? Or might they even go for Jonathan Martin or Cordy Glenn here?

I'm honestly not sure. They haven't favored anyone in this draft really, at least from the stuff I've read. I wouldn't count the Jets drafting outside positions of need either.

The guy's never played football in his life. I can't wait until the Jets sign a lacrosse or synchronized swimmer.

I'd personally take Floyd but it's a complete mystery to me and Upshaw makes a whole lot of sense. There hasn't been much about the Jets plans this year and they've been unpredictable in the draft recently...Kyle Wilson kinda came outta no where for us.

Realgm is great on hoops but the rest of the big sports are covered better elsewhere and I was just wondering which ones intelligent nonhomerJet's fans favor?

I really have no idea who Hayden Smith is lol. The Jets have been pretty mysterious to me this off-season. WR, OL, DL and a pass rusher seem like the biggest need to me. As a Bears fan, I hope that they fall in love with Upshaw, so that if Floyd is available they pass on him lol. This will be an interesting draft because it has an incredible amount of talent.

Re: The Official 2012 New York Jets Offseason Thread
I'm surprised that there has not been more of a consensus to draft a tackle at sixteen rather than a pass rusher, wide receiver or saftey. They are all definite needs but whether Sanchez or Tebow, ground and pound or not, right tackle was the worst position on both sides of the ball and is the biggest need going away. I would rather the Jets reach for Cordy Glenn or Martin than hope for a second or third rounder that comes in to compete with Hunter. What if Hunter wins the battle in camp?

I think the need for a pass rusher = need for tackle and safety isn't far behind tbh. We have major holes at all three spots.

Make that at least one pass rusher from the end or outside linebacker position, a big receiver and a slot receiver, two safteies, two tackles and a guard with one of the three able to fill in at center, a tight end unless you believe Cumberland is a legitimate answer as the blocker, at least one running back, a scat back, an inside linebacker and maybe even a developmental quarterback. Thanks for trading away all those draft picks Mike Tannenbaum. At least we're set at fullback and covered at corner; pun intended.

Slot Receiver we have Kerley who I like there.
RT need is much bigger than our other line needs.
Laron Landry with Eric Smith backing up, I'd say one Safety will do and then maybe a late pick on a depth addition.
TE, they signed that Rugby player who's pretty big...I think they actually plan on using him. I don't like it but that's their way of addressing maybe (what is this the Replacements?).
Pass Rush from the end, be patient with Wilkerson like I said.
LB, I'd say an edge rusher is more important than ILB with Scott coming back. We do need an ILB but I think we can sneak by one more season before addressing that.
So you're exaggerating a little bit. There pieces in place that should buy us time to really decide. With the RB situation, we've got two young RB's so I'm guessing they'll hold off on drafting another. I don't have much faith in any of them but Greene might thrive under Sparano and Powell really didn't get much chance to show us what he's got.

Re: The Official 2012 New York Jets Offseason Thread
I'm OK with six or seventh round picks for receivers and running backs or signing a couple off the free agent scrap heap. I'm hoping Reiff slips to sixteen as I am not certain that a step in starter will be available by the time we pick in the second round. There are a couple of older free agent right tackles that might fill in for the year but I will be very disappointed if Hunter starts. It might be a bit of a reach to pick Glenn and hope he can be quick enough in pass protect at tackle. With Landry having difficulty staying healthy and Smith an utter disaster, I do think both free and strong safety should be considerations though it appears to be a rather weak class in general. I just hate the idea of spending a first on Barron with right tackle and edge rusher as obvious needs. It's clear that someone will drop to us at sixteen but I think I would still look to trade down or out of the first round and get an extra pick or two in the second, third or fourth rounds; thereby ensuring an extra potential starter or two that the Jets could certainly use. I am also resigned to Scott for at least another year and his contract is a difficult one both to trade and cut. Thanks.

I really like Richardson but I don't know how the Jets could get him and address all of their needs. I think this is a pipedream.
