How come that doesn't factor in?

As far as intentional, yeah, he intentionally hit Harden, but not in a particularly malicious way. It was a "get the f off me" elbow, not a premediated strike to the face. I personally don't think he knew Harden's face was right up against him (ps why was Harden riding up against Artest like that after Artest dunked?), Artest wasn't even looking at him. Again, he felt somebody next to him, but wasn't aiming for him. It was a "get the f' off me" move, but it was reckless, and he deserved some kind of punishment, but not a prejudiced judgment.

Some of the twitter reporters are so melodramatic. Claiming that Artest could have killed Harden. Seriously? That kind of crap from the media shapes prejudice against Ron in the first place. You know, the kind that just might drive a guy crazy.

Funny that these accident elbow hits don't happen to most other players much just guys like Bynum, MWP, and other dirty players.

Crap 90% of the NBA players play their entire careers without ever getting suspended a single game.

Artest is definitely a physical player. He deserved to get suspended.

I just don't agree with 7 games, which is unprecedented for that type of play, and I don't like David Stern's reasoning about selective past history, and overreactive members of the media who make Artest out to be a crazy murderer.

I like Artest playing physical, that's the reason why we got him, that's the reason why so many teams want him or players like him.

And Bynum being a dirty player? He had two cheap shots. The rest of the time, he's more Kwame than Charles Oakley. Just another example of people overreacting.

I remember people were saying the same about Kobe when Kobe clipped a few players in a row that one year, Ginobili being one of them.

If the league office is going to use "past" instances to make a call on this ruling, they shoul have taken a look at the video posted earlier of Harden vs the Mavs baiting for some contact. They probably would have settled for 3 games.

Anyways, it was a dumb, wreckless elbow and he's got to pay for it. I don't want to see anybody get seriously hurt (career ending injury)', but Harden has been trying to clown people a little much and I agree that it was about time someone sent him a message.

Elbow to the mouth instead with loss of front teeth would have been a nicer "safer" option. But then again, it was a "no look" elbow so can't be mad at Ron.

Fcuk Harden! Let's see him wave 3 fingers after a made three....

can't wait for war!

So are we still fighting about this ? Get over it he got suspended! Whether it was intentional or not he deserves to get suspended! I'm glad someone cocked Harden, the guy is walking speakerphone! It was bound to happen! Let's move on and we will see peace back in the second round!

Sounds like you need to move on. Its beyond argument that it was intentional.

metta receives 7 game suspension

I thought best case scenario was 5 games, so I think this is very fair. Especially with all the negative backlash and national media attention this has gotten.

The 7 game suspension doesn't surprise me. What I am saddened is that people look at the outcome and immediately assume it is directly proportional to intent. Bowen has never elbowed someone's head, but he was probably one of the most malicious player in the league who could remain unsuspended for over 500 games because he is subtle with his acts, and it took a flopper like CP3 to finally get him suspended.

7 games is alright with me. Luckily Harden is okay. Even though chances are slim it could've been a lot more serious (yes even death by a small % with complications). I'm sure Metta's elbow is like pure steel and the skull is a marshmallow when it comes to blows. Anyway, going 6 games the first round doesn't seem good for our old team but I'd like MWP in all games the second round since we'll most likely face OKC.
