Report: Knicks to offer Phil Jackson huge contract

Post#1 » by CMG518 » Wed Apr 25, 2012 4:32 pm

According to Gery Woelfel from journaltimes.com:

If the New York Knicks don’t advance beyond the first round of the playoffs, I’m hearing they’ll make a major — repeat, major — push to lure legendary coach Phil Jackson out of retirement.

With money being no object, the scuttlebutt is the Knicks brass may offer the “Zen Master” a four-year, $50 million deal.

Thoughts?

Melo and Amare have both endorsed Woodson to be the coach, i guess Knicks management have other plans. I don't care, as long as it brings the Knicks closer to a championship.

alot of the pros/cons of the debate of phil vs woody have been gone over to death in the other thread so not going to go into depth about that

id be shocked if getting past the heat was the only factor in making a offer to phil

Would make sense. Jackson reportedly is feeling much better and is supposedly leaning towards a return in the right situation. NY, 2 stars, a DPOY candidate and a few nice young PROVEN contributors should qualify as a preferred destination.

Dolan is all for it, he knows having Phil running the show he can raise ticket prices even more.

Melo and Chandler both fit Phil Jackson's style same as Shumpert defensively. Amare' will be tough but Phil can find a way. Even though Melo and Amare' endorses Mike Woodson that does not mean anything.

Phil Jackson may want to do a full 360 and win a ring where he started it all. Yea he had 4 hall of famers in Jordan, Kobe, Shaq and Pippen. The teams he took over in Chicago and LA were good but got over the top once he got on board. The 2009 and 2010 championship Lakers was Phil Jackson's best job IMO. It was a rebuilding team that improved it's wins every year. Many can say the Lakers only got good cause of Gasol, but Bynum's production improved also. And Memhpis did get Marc Gasol in return.

I rather stick with Woodson. If it aint broke don't fix it. Phil Jackson is up in age and he won't be coaching for long. Woodson is a great long term option

you obviously need to make this move if we get swept in the 1st round

if we make some noise, then think about it

Ifs and he said she said. Speculation of what we might do if we dont do what needs to be done.

The primary focus should be a playoff run. Not what someone heard we might do if we dont do well. This team never gets a chance to perform first. Always left wondering about tomorrow before yesterday is finished.

I guess the knicks being one of the hottest teams coming into the playoffs is not a story. What the knicks might do if our playoff run ends unsuccessfully is.

Knicks would have to make the ECF and make it a series for Knicks management to second think on passing up on Phil Jackson. Going to Knicks vs Lakers games I always see Phil chatting with Clyde before the game.

This is interesting but once again this goes back to the Carmelo wants Woodson article from yesterday:

I would upset if we let Woody go but if Phil is willing to be here for more than 1-2 years (Article says we're offering 4) then fu*k it, do it. The one problem I'm having is we're kind of setting up Woodson to fail.

We're in a position where we'll be facing either the Bulls or the Heat with both teams being ranked higher & better than us in some capacity. If we lose to either team Woody is most likely gone & we'll look to replace him with Phil. What kind of shiesty sh*t is that? I'm one of those fans who believe in business is business & looking at realistic views but cmon Dolan has to look at the circumstances Woodson got put into along with the fact that his starting PG is injured & the 100 million man is recovering from a injury.

I never say it but that sh*t isn't fair.

Well, I just don't believe the Knicks will get swept in the 1st round. I know they will compete and win a few games against the Heat. Who is expecting the Knicks to beat the Heat in the 1st round? It's unfair to Woodson, but oh well.

I'd say it's nothing more than speculation as a result Grunwald getting his interim status removed.. And everyone knows they'll contact Phil Jackson, probably no matter what happens barring a crazy deep run... So nothing really new

I am not as giddy about Phil Jackson as everyone is about Phil Jackson. I am worried about the baggage and the circus he brings.

He is the greatest coach ever but I just get the feeling of Larry Brown part 2.

I cant argue against 11 rings but He's so old. He so much bigger than the Knicks organization that spell disaster to. He was never bigger than the Bulls or Lakers. Both teams made his legacy. The Knicks dont really do anything for him.

Im rooting for Woody which means he would have to have some playoff success, which I think is unfair because if Woody was here earlier in the year would probable would be taking about meetin the Heat in the 2nd or third round and not the 1st.

Oh well, we got great option for a very talented team.

With PJax here, Woody (or Ewing) will be his lead assistant and Houston (shooting techniques, post-game, catch and shoot) + Johnson (low-post moves, box-out and defense) also in the coaching staff! As for the triangle schemes his assistant will be one of his pupils and favourites, Brian Shaw (this season ast coach in Indiana Pacers)...

I'm not buying it, pure BS speculation. I'm sure the front office is keeping hush on any coaching decisions until after the playoffs. No need to distract Woodson right now.
