I thought it was pretty clear that the injury Collins had was corrected and could never happen again, BUT it causes additional stress on other parts of the neck. Its definitely a judgment call. I would let him play because I believe in personal choice, but that policy has led to abuse in other areas like concussions. Just because someone is cleared doesn't mean he should be able to play or that a team is FORCED to let him play.

He probably wasn't cleared to play this year and they didn't want to pay him for not playing.

Yeah... and it's not like the Packers are taking away his ability to play football. If he is capable and cleared, he can play elsewhere.

I think thats a giant part of it. They are leaving the ball in Nick's court. Honestly with the health concerns he could endure I bet the Pack dont want that on them.

If Collins ends up being a difference maker for another team in the NFC North I will be pissed.

The thing that irks me the most is if you already waited this long, why not wait until the draft is over? Let other teams think you may keep Collins, that way if Barron falls to you or you are considering Harrison Smith, Iloka, Taylor, or Hardin in the later rounds nobody jumps in front of you. Now they all know we are thinking about taking a safety early.

I think we should go after Bob Sanders. I understand he is hurt constantly, but he will come at a minimum contract and is worth the risk.

it won't change thompson's draft strategy. and maybe they let him go before the draft so that a team that was thinking of taking a safety would pick him up instead---makes collins' options for work much better. could have been a 'favor' with a gentleman's agreement that he not sign within the division. who knows.

personally i feel if they thought he could play without getting hurt, he'd still be our starting safety. i'm not upset with the organization at all. sucks for everyone though.

It would be a different disc. Nothing that's been written about this surgery suggests an increased likelihood of a spinal cord injury, so I'm curious as to why you'd suggest the risk of paralysis.[/quote]

the disk thats at a higher risk of injury is just as capable as being life altering as the current I.jured disk. there is a very real health risk with him playing.

If the Packers chose to cut him, that means they don't feel comfortable with the risk. And if they don't feel comfortable with the risk, despite how great Collins is and their need for a safety, the risk must be pretty damn high. That's good enough for me.

I can't fault the Packers for there decision. It's kinda admirable in my eyes. But man that guy was good. The thought of him coming back and being what he was for another team is gonna sting hard. If playing again is what he decides to do then I hope he does come back close to what he was. He was class through and through and I hope for the absolute best for him in whatever he decides to do.

Maybe he'll sit out this year and come back next year. Please?

Time off really isn't a factor, sitting out a year isn't going to change anything.

I really dislike LeRoy Butler. He's always had an over inflated view of himself and I remember him being pissed that green bay had Collins wear 36. Someone should show him a list of Packers in the Hall of fame that don't have their numbers retired.

I personally like LeRoy, but that is probably because he was one the first of BrINT's former teammates to speak out about how much of a douche he truly is/was.
