OT: Visiting L.A.
Whats up guys, I'm flying out to L.A next month for the first time w/my boyz. I've never been to the westcoast before, so I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the city. I'll be in L.A. for a day & 1/2 & then driving over to Vegas that wknd for the fight. Been to Vegas before, just not L.A. We have a couple of things planned, but if anyone can help me out with "anything", it'd be helpful!
I'm going to a playoff game that Weds night 5/2 (long as there is one). Hopefully its the Lake Show, but if not I'll settle for lob city. Where/when is the best time to get tickets. In Orlando, I just get on craigslist the day of the game to see what deal I can find. Any recommendations? Obviously I know stubhub, ebay, etc etc. What should I expect to pay? I was looking at keeping it around no more than $250-300 a ticket, but I want good seats.
Also, whats the best nightclub/strip club/bar to hit up in L.A. on a weds nite? I'll be staying in Pasadena.
One last question, how long does it generally take to drive over to Vegas? I've heard 5 hrs & I've heard 4. I hear L.A. traffic is a nightmare, just wanted to get an idea of what to expect.
Thanks again & good luck in the playoffs.

Re: OT: Visiting L.A.
Lakers playoff tickets are going to be pretty expensive, and they sell out fast.
And yeah don't ever drive here, you'll be late to everything.

Public transportation works for certain planned events but I drive everywhere. I feel more in control and you just have to leave with time to spare.

Barry's tickets. Since it's a playoff game, it might get steep. Real Steep.

I would stay in old town. LA is pretty spread out, hard to tell someone to head across town to party. There is stuff to do where you will stay.
One last question, how long does it generally take to drive over to Vegas? I've heard 5 hrs & I've heard 4. I hear L.A. traffic is a nightmare, just wanted to get an idea of what to expect.
Traffic to Vegas isn't terrible, it's just getting out of LA that is the problem. If you are staying in Pasadena then you probably just have to take the 210 to the 15 and you will be there in 4 hours or less. Assuming you leave at the right time.
Cheers.

Only takes me 3 1/2 to Vegas most of the time.....but then again I drive in the wee hours, pushing 75-80 mph.

Yeah my rig rolls like that......that cruise speed. You know the Expeditions glide. C'mon Doc don't go goody two shoes on me and claim you haven't done that speed on the 15 before!

The redline/subway is pretty convenient to get to downtown where they have some decent bars and restaurants and also Staples Center is close by. Theres a good bar by the 7th and metro stop. i can't remember the name. Its an irish pub that I usually go to when I come back home from school.
Enjoy your stay!

Best strip club in LA = Spearmint Rhino in downtown LA.
Clubs, I have no clue what's poppin on Wed night. Try Old Town Pasadena like one poster said and walk down Colorado Blvd. Lot of bars and a few clubs - Menage, Barney's Beanery, LIV, etc. If you're bored, go to Hollywood and walk around the Hollywood/Highlands area. All the major clubs are in that area - Highlands, Element, Kress, Playhouse, Drais, etc. Downtown LA is mostly bars. I know because I live there. If you wanna get drunk after the game, just go across the street to LA Live and hit up Yardhouse, Conga Room, Lucky Strike, etc.
If I were you, I'd save the nightclubs for Vegas and just splurge over there. Marquee is the hottest spot right now and'll make any club in LA look weak. You should also buy Marquee tickets ahead of time unless you have 50/50 ratio or you're good at merging groups with girls.
One last question, how long does it generally take to drive over to Vegas? I've heard 5 hrs & I've heard 4. I hear L.A. traffic is a nightmare, just wanted to get an idea of what to expect.
I've done it in 4. Depends on if you're leaving during Rush Hour or not. From Pasadena you'd be taking the 210 all the way to the 15. If you leave during Rush Hour, you'll hit traffic on and off til you hit the 15. Also, Friday night is the worst traffic going there, though you should still be able to make it in 5. Sunday is the worst coming back, you either leave early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Also watch out for cops. You got 3 different cop jurisdictions that overlap on the way to Vegas - California Highway Patrol, Nevada State Police, and some other PD I can't remember that patrols high desert.
Have fun...
I'll be busy working on my sixpack so I can hit up Rehab in a couple months

And I hope Mayweather gets KTFO by Cotto!!!

Re: OT: Visiting L.A.
I just visited LA for my 21st b'day at the start of April, so i'll give you my opinion:
If you are going to an amusement park, do California Adventure. We went to Universal and the rides were an hour wait and nothing you'd wanna go on more than once. I wanted to do some roller-coasters with my wife so i'd recommend either Cali Adventure or 6 flags
Definitely go to a laker or clipper game. This was the highlight of my trip, we sat 5th row for the lakers/clippers game and it was one of the best experiences of my life. I'm from Utah and have been to a ton of jazz games but going to a game in LA is a unique experience
Be prepared for fast-paced driving, people in cali like to get where they are going as quickly as possible. Me and my wife saw 1 cop on the freeways the entire week we were there, i dont think cops look at speeding unless its a huge difference to the other cars cause everybody speeds. It took roughly a 1/2 hour to 45 mins to get from one side of LA to the other
Try and go see a sunset at Long Beach, me and my wife drove to the Korean Friendship Bell our first day there and it was incredible. I'm a history major so i wanted to see a couple historical things and the bell was definitely worth it
Drive down sunset blvd, walk down hollywood blvd and hit Rodeo drive. Those are definitely fun/unique experiences.
Malibu was incredibly boring to me and it took forever to get out there, the canyons to get there didnt help justify the drive and everywhere is gated communities anyway. Santa Monica Pier is definitely cool though, we ate at the Bubba Gump there
Last piece of advice, drive up Hollywood canyon and just drive around. We stumbled onto Mulholland drive and came across so many great views/photo opps and Griffith Park was incredible as well. Yes Man is one of my favorite movies so it was a must-see for me

Re: OT: Visiting L.A.
literally do only one thing the poster said above--go to a game.
you can't get good seats for the LAKESHOW for only 300 during th playoffs.
Stay in old town. Only go to hollywood if you want to spend like 2-3 hundred at a club.
You'll get to Vegas in 4 hours if you leave between 5-6 am or 10-11 am.
cops are everywhere, don't get out of control on the freeway until you get out of LA.
Hit up Manhattan/ Hermosa beach to chill...Mark Cuban hits up Manhattan Beach bars every time he's in LA...
Sharks Cove in mb is chill, I got Kobe to sign the jersey that hangs in there about 7-8 years ago...the bartenders will tell you "sleeves" got the jersey signed
