First, Helton is 33 going on 34. Why are you assuming that, even in the middle of his contract in 2008 and 2009, that he will be a gold glove first basemen? By the time his contract is over in 2011, he'll be 38. Second, he is a .336 career hitter because he plays in the best hitters park of all time. Every year, he shows ridiculous home/away splits that give you the idea that the only reason he has such inflated batting averages is because he plays in the best hitters park of all time. Third, do we really want another player clogging the DH spot? I don't know about you, but when Giambi is gone, I want Matsui taking the DH spot and getting a better fielder in LF. I don't want somebody like Helton having to be a DH and limiting our flexibility.
