The Lakers are sitting Kobe, Pau, Bynum, Artest, and Barnes, so they may not have a choice in the matter

I wonder if the Kings management will allow their team to win tonight. The
teams with 21 wins so far have made sure they did not get their 22nd win
tonight.

That might be true, but I believe in their defense they have still been playing there players such as Evans and Cousins. There tank hasn't been as blatant as teams like Warriors, Cleveland, etc/

It does matter, because if the Kings win they are tied with the Nets with 22 wins, if they lose they finish with 21 wins. If they tie I don't know how the tiebreaker is determined though.

It matters because only the playoffs use head to head to determine placement. Tied lottery bound teams use a coin flip (might be changing this to some other game of chance this year?).

Ha! I wasn't speculating in my last post when I said 5th position would be decided by a coin flip if Kings win. That's actually how they do it. The coin flips will take place and be announced tomorrow.

What I want to know is why do we then have to wait over a month for the bloody lottery?

Because Stern needs to decide the outcome first

So what's left to root for? We want Sactown to win so they hit 22 losses. But what about GS? Is it true if they lose UT doesn't get their lottery pick?

Well it will still depend on a coin flip and the draft lotto, so nothing will be for sure with GS. We want GS to lose though I think, because they are more likely to pick someone less useful than the Jazz would be.

They use a coin flip between 2 teams and a simultaneous coin flip for more than 2 teams.
A 3 way tie breaker consists of whichever team gets the one heads or tails.

Kings up 20 with 6 minutes to go. I hope the Nets end up in the 5 spot. I believe that would give us a 75% chance of keeping the pick. I can live with those odds.

Coin flips do not effect lotto balls, so the Kings and the Nets will have the same amount of balls. Balls.

I think it will come out to somewhere around an 80% chance the Portland gets the pick. I call heads!

Edit: Nope, you were right, about 75%

Well it will be an average of the 5th and 6th picks. So whatever their odds are. We still want the Nets to win that coin flip though!

Warriors lost which ties them with Toronto and means whether Utah gets their pick or not will probably come down to the coin flip tomorrow.

actually, in this, case a coin flip will decide lotto balls. the 5th pick gets 88 chances out of a thousand to get #1, the 6th pick gets 63

that's 151 total. If it was 150, each team would get 75. But since it's 151, the winner of a coin-flip will not only get the 5th pick, but also get the extra 'lotto ball' giving them 76

If the Nets are 5th, Portland has better then standard chances to keep the pick as the 5th pick's odds are diluted by being combined with the 6th pick's odds. The bad news is that if the Nets have the 6th pick, they have a little better chance then normal of jumping into the top-3
