Holly ****, Val is getting so much more better. Especially with catching the ball mid-air. He needs to utilize the backboard when he has that hook shot. Almost TD like. But yeah he's definitely developing.

Guys I have a question about Val. It appears to me that one of this greatest assets is that he always seems to get himself open near the basket. And he seems to do this by rolling off picks aggressively and by always being in motion.

My question is: is that all there is to getting so open and if so why the heck doesn't every big man do this in the NBA? Or if they do and defenses shut this down then will Val's ability to get so open translate to the NBA? Or is Val especially skilled at it and if so in what way?

He has a great first lateral step, when setting a pick sideways. Then he has long strides. So he has some fine natural attributes, and he's a better finisher than most and will do well in that regard. The other part of pick and roll is the guard, and how much respect he gets from defences. If the guard is a good shooter coming off picks, the exposed defender - usually a hedging big, if the pick has blocked off the defending guard - has to make a decision to either challenge the shooter or roll with the big to the basket. It's not easy for a lot of bigs.

Jonas also plays with his hands up more than most bigs, making himself available in a lot of situations, and this will be invaluable to him and us. His work off the ball is impressive.

Wow, maybe it is because I have not been able to catch any games this year, but Jonas looks much bigger already. I can't wait to see him play next year. FAP anyone?

Probably cause he's flexing as he goes up for a slam or something, sorta like that Joey Graham photo where he looked insanely ripped.

Thanks Dagger. Yeah, I noticed the hands up thing and obviously he is a great finisher. It seems that if 'setting a pick and rolling to the rim to receive the pass and score" is a series of 10 or so steps that he does each one correctly, resulting so often in an easy bucket. Excellent!
