Re: 2012 NBA Playoffs: (4) Grizzlies vs (5) Clips - Series (
I think this series won't go past 5 or 6 games. Memphis is the better team by a lot IMO.
Mike Conley should do a good job staying in front of Chris Paul. Tony Allen will harass him. The Grizzlies have Agent Zero off the bench. They're going to frustrate Paul into many, many flops attempts. Mo Williams will have to really play big for LAC, and that could happen, but I don't see it being enough. PG won't be a big edge for LAC despite Paul being the best player.
Blake Griffin's bully dunks and DeAndre Jordan's power dunks will be matched by the power game of Zach Randolph, Marresse Speights. and Marc Gasol. I think Dante Cunningham will help off the bench, too.
The guy I think could dominate this series is Rudy Gay. I don't think The Clippers have an answer for him. Butler is slowing down noticeably this season. Gay and Mayo on the wings give the Grizzlies an advantage. I don't see Nick Young coming through for LAC.

It's plus for clippers

Grizzlies in 7, they are simply the deeper team. Griffin and CP3 combo is awesome but Memphis has got a lot of weapons, both on the court and off the bench.

I don't really understand why everyone is overrating the **** out of the Grizzlies. This is a league where superstars win championships.
When it comes down to it the Clippers have Chris Paul. Who is going to be the driving force of the Grizzlies?

This will be a very solid series, but I think the Clippers will pull it off in 6.

This series will depend on Chris Paul and his groin.

We aren't talking about the Grizzles winning a championship. We are talking about them getting out of the first round against a one star team that has three starters who have never even been in a playoff series.

You are really lost buddy. The reason the Grizz are a "scary" team is because of the lack of a superstar. They have the deepest roster in the NBA without a clear player taking most of the shots and being double teamed.
When you feel you have Gay under control, comes Mayo bombing his threes. When you stop Gasol, Speights makes it rain. Conley has an off-night, Allen becomes a scoring SG running the point....
The fear or respect the Grizz provoke is because all their players feel important and are all talented. Their system is not based around 1 player. Everybody can be THE guy.
But that's not everything. When you look at the Grizz play, what's impressive really is their half-court D and O, as well as their crazy transition. They are a really athletic team; they have an aggressive perimeter D stealing a lot of balls (the team that provokes the most turnovers in the NBA) with Conley being as good defender as CP3 and Allen being one of the best perimeter defenders in the league; they have a strong frontcourt (M.Gasol is a C you can't bully); and when the game is slowed, they can compete with anyone.
Sure they have weaknesses. That lack of a clear superstar leads to a lot of anarchy in their games delivering dumb losses. Their backup C is pretty limited even tho he plays with a lot of heart. Tony Allen gets in foul trouble pretty often and is not treated like a star by the refs. And many other weak links.
But, overall, the Grizz are the kind of team you want to avoid. Most teams have a superstar and don't get affected too much by a W. Grizz gain a HUGE confidence boost because the guy who shines feels important, while those who don't feel they're next thanks to the opportunities they have in the Grizz and wouldn't have in a team with a superstar, an All-Star or two and a clear rotation.
On the other hand, the Clippers depend WAY TOO MUCH on CP3. Their interior D is mediocre for the PO. Their half-court offense depends exclusively on CP3's success/lack of. Their coach is mediocre. They need to make the 3s rain. And they lack that perimeter defender able to guard an inspired Gay.
So no, people are not overrating the Grizz; they just understand that they are a tough team to beat because of that lack of a superstar/leader and their talent offensively and defensively.

Playoff basketball gets more physical and the floppers won't be able to handle it

Been a Grizz fan for a long time and have watched the maturation of this team this year and it's been a team of streaks and a lot of obstacles. Lionel Hollins really should be on the short list for COY.
Hollins is a mechanic, he tinkers and tinkers and tinkers ... and the team just keeps running better and better and better.
Without looking up the Grizz have gone 16-4 in their last 20 games (half those wins where over teams in the playoffs), have the longest winning streak in franchise history at home, standing at 11 in a row, went on a 6 game winning streak to snatch homecourt advantage and take the 4th seed that the Clips just gave up on.
Let CP get his, let BG dunkstare and jump out the gym ... Every single player in the Grizz short rotation has averaged in double digits in scoring this year, except Mo Speights and he's at 9ppg.
This Grizz team is the best Grizz team in the history of the franchise.

Clippers have experience from the vets that will be huge and championship knowledge with Billups guiding the team and with Nick Young and Williams being able to get hot any game and the Grizzly sucking at our biggest weakness which is defending 3pt shooting.
Clippers in 6 Griffin has his post season coming out party he always finds a way to get his and if we can get a rested Caron Butler is proven dangerous.

Billups has been at home games for some time now rehabbing and the team responded strongly to gis return as a assistant/head coach. His presence uplifts the team and his knowledge with Pauls is deadly . In the playoffs Billups will try and be there for all games including road so it will be interesting to see if the team can keep up the strong play with Billups around. You can not undersell the importance of knowing the road to a championship first hand even with Butler not playing in the post season last year he can provide knowledge to our team of the importance of each game from seeing his own team.

Clippers have the season series and the best two players. They have the best closer by far.
If it's a close game down at the end, the Grizz are probably ****. Better hope for blowouts.
Clippers have to make their three point shooting. If Foye, Mo, Caron and Young have nice games it will be a blowout.
Blake Griffin has to raise his game in the playoffs. He has shown he can recently.
The Clippers always rise against the best teams in the league.
Clippers in 6.

To answer your question with the Grizzlies its pick your poison/mixed with who has the hot hand. OJ Mayo for the most part of the last 5-6 weeks has been our closer. Which was highlighted against the Jazz when we were down 10 points going into the 4th quarter. and OJ erupts for 17 4th quarter points. Closing games out like a star waiting to happen imo next season on his new team.
Rudy Gay has also had his fair share of clutch moments in recent weeks.
OJ Mayo , Michael Jordan , Allen Iverson.
