Seahawks have a knack for genius picks. Definitely they do not care what people think, but look they did it last year and Carp turned out to be a good player and their later round huh's are turning into pro bowlers. Schneider has drafted 10 pro bowler, the next best GM in the division has 4. I was stunned, but they did get the undisputed best edge rusher, which was their big need.

He will immediately have one of the best first steps in the league:

Courtney Upshaw: 4.75
Chandler Jones: 4.87
Quinton Coples: 4.78
Aldon Smith: 4.78
Von Miller: 4.53
Bruce Irvin: 4.50

it's not the fact that irvin was selected (well, it sort of is), it's mostly where he was selected. if seattle wasn't high on anyone else then they could've just as easily traded into the tennessee range of picks and selected him there if they felt he wasn't going to get past the 1st round, then not only would seattle have had their DE, they would've also had extra picks in other rounds of the draft. or they could've just selected him in the 2nd round like he was projected to go.

irvin's the most talented pass rusher in the game, but he's also just about the riskiest pick out of just about everyone in the draft. him dropping out of high school and his troubles with the law are massive red flags. carroll seems like a friendly, player's coach kind of guy and maybe that'll be enough to be irvin out of trouble. if he can then irvin would probably be considered an enormous steal, if not then that's probably the worst pick in the draft considering what was still left on the board.
