Larry Brown kicking players off team at SMU

Post#1 » by Johnny Kilroy » Sat Apr 28, 2012 4:41 am

So far, four players have been told by Brown that they are no longer on the basketball team because "they're not good enough to play for him". Brown, being the class act that he is, did not take away their scholarships. Brown's done some pretty bad things in his career, but this is a new low, even for him. Ethics aside, who is he going to replace these players with, walk-ons? They are going to get murdered in the big east this year.

telling them they are no longer on the team will have the same effect as taking their schollies because they will likely transfer to another school anyway

eh, he's the coach and his job is to win. Its not gym class where every kid gets to play. I'm sure he knows what he's doing, being a HOF coach with 30-40 yrs exp and all.

I'm waiting for the former starting PG to go on the radio and rip and insult Larry Brown for dismissing him. Unfortunately, even 20 year old college kids are probably more mature than Larry so I doubt it will happen.

he's a scumbag, plain and simple. if you've followed him over his career you'd know that there's not one front office in the nba who doesn't have an exec that has horrible things to say about him. he was banished from the nba. i thought he knew that. he hasn't changed either. after accepting the SMU job, they had to hold off the press conference because he was still calling the blazers begging them to bring him in for an interview.

i'd be shocked if he lasted more than one year at SMU.

The guy is a piece of trash. Solid coach with the right pieces but outside of that he has no moral or ethics and will supposedly would call for trades of players he didn't like (keep in mind he was just the coach).

This is considered baiting. This is your only warning.

EDIT: Wait...how many warnings do you already have against your record? Wow.

Who is he recruiting to do a better job? How can he kick off players on a team and not have replacements? They are going to get slaughtered. Can't wait

What the heck is Larry Brown's problem? Dude is a good coach, you can't be the only one in history to win NCAA/NBA titles without being good, but morally/ethically he's just a bad person in general...and I'm kind of surprised at SMU for even hiring him. I understand they wanted to make a splash, but why not get a young head coach who can stay with you and develop with you during the Big East transition?

Brown is old, and this thing was obviously a stopgap type of job from the get-go, but with Brown's track record, that's only maximized. He's already kicking players off of the team...does he remember how college works? Who will replace them when it's almost May and even the late freaking signing period is pretty much over and done with?

Who's going to take the court for SMU next year? They were already bad, now he's showing starters the door? Seriously? Brown is going to send that program up in flames, which is sad. And these poor kids. They didn't want any of this.

i can only think of one reason why he did this. he is desperate to get back into the nba. and clearly - if he could have gotten a better gig in college - he would have taken it. he's been going to villanova games alot as a guest of jay wright, and the headlines always make it seem like he's on basketball welfare. trying to hang around anyway he can. the SMU job is a publicity stunt and he knows it. somehow, he's going to try to use this to angle himself back into the nba. and unfortunately, it has already hurt a bunch of kids. he was fired by jordan a year and half ago. why is he just starting to take shots at him now? my guess is he's got nothing left to turn to but these tactics. he can't get back in the league, so he's gonna blame it on jordan. someone who is supposedly family to him.

as for mj having yes men? hey, at least he was surrounded with someone. brown would have just done everything all by himself.
