Well.. this is what happens when we get those "character wins" and those "morale victories"

*sigh* This team can't even lose properly...it's so sad.

I don't want him but if he's BPA and there are no trades available that are worthwhile. I guess we gotta take him.

you better believe that Casey and co are going to work the **** out of him, especially his ability to square up and move his feet. shooting ability in his workout is also going to be huge. the basic mechanics are there but can he knock down NBA shooting drills? where's his first step at? biggest of all will be how hard he works, how he interviews, and how quickly he learns.

we'll have a pretty deep team going forward so it will be hard to find him minute but can also afford, in my opinion, to take a flier on a player and trust in your coaching, training staff, and players to provide a fertile environment for growth.

Casey said he wants guys that can defend, run, and shoot (duh). PJ3 fits the bill. Kind of.

I think that 1st 7 spots will be AD/MKG/Beal/Barnes/Lamb/Trob/Drummond or Sullinger. He's ofcourse the best player at 8. Cause Lillard played in scrub league, Scott Machado also played in scrub league but is ranked somewhere 50-60. Tyshawn Taylor > Lillard.

Perry Jones is talented but im not convinced hes a 3 yet. I think workouts will give us a clearer picture. Hes a high risk high reward type player. If nobody falls to us then Its Lillard or P.Jones for me. Lillard is the more logical pick but Jones might be too talented to pass up on. Casey is the right guy to coach him too

TiKusDom wrote:I would be quite happy with PJ at 7 or 8, again this is a guy with the highest upside only next to Anthony Davis in this entire draft. He has incredible physical tools and if he ever puts it together, he is going to be a monster. I do not believe he is a 4, he doesnt want to be one, his game doesnt resemble one and his natural tendencies are that of a wing player. Like I said before, if a team invests the coaching and development time into molding him into a 3, and he puts it all together, he will be a monster wing player. As soon soon as he steps on the court he will already be in the top 10 % of the NBA in terms of athleticism and physical tools, he just needs to be developed and groomed into a 3. I am sure Colangelo is salviating at the chance of drafting a true physical specimen if he's still on board at 8 / 7 . As much as people want to hate on this kid, I think he has superstar potential, again its a long road, but if he develops and reaches that potential, he is going to be a very very scary player.

He has the tools to become an elite level defensive player which is the most intriguing part about him to me.

I agree with the majority of this. My issue with Perry is that he shows absolutely no interest in playing defense whatsoever, despite have the physical tools to get the job done, at least against PFs. Maybe Casey can ride his ass hard and get him to deliver on his potential.

This may sound sacrilegious to some, but I think he has way more upside than MKG. PJ3 is the type of guy who will show well in workouts and could climb the draft board before all is said and done.

Bargs and Perry and JV would make a pretty intesting combination of bigmen and I would be very happy with PJ3 on the wing as long as his running mate was someone other than Demar, maybe someone like Gordon would be a nicer fit, a guy with the ability to drive or shott from outside.

PJ3 has all the physical tools to be extremely successful in the NBA. Size is there, athleticism is pretty good, awareness seems good as well. Question is, can he put it all together and bring it every night. You'd be talking about potentially a 6'11 SF in the NBA. If he improves his shooting, boom you got an amazing player. I'd imagine Casey is the kind of coach he'd need to put it altogether. I'd take a chance at him at 8-9 for sure.

Something about him strikes me as the kind of player who would excel in the more open NBA environment.

It's really tough on the knees to guard the perimeter as an over-sized player. See: Most who have tried. It's probably best that he plays the 4 like a pussy or comes off the bench.

Scary might have a Gerald Green slip in a similar, uber-talented head case situation in a not-dissimilar draft, so he might be available in the late teens like GG was. It would be a 2nd-pick situation for me, but if we were to get him at #18 or something then I would get on board. You're drafting a 6th-man at that point.

I remember reading on here how he had been playing as a point guard through some of his highschool basketball years.

He has loads of talent. Doesn't equate to anything without hard work and discipline. But work ethic can be instilled with a coach like Casey. Tough call, but there are better options with the pick then drafting Perry Jones, Austin Rivers, or even Lillard.

Trading up and trading out of the draft are better.

I don't think we'll take him, but I think he's a good risk at #8. The expectations will be less, but a Lamar Odom-type at #8 is a good draft. If Casey can make Bargnani play defense, he can probably get through to Jones III.

I'd personally prefer we keep the hypothetical late pick and draft PJ3 rather than trade the pick along with what I'm assuming will be one of our better young assets in order to move up in the draft or bring back a player who likely isn't on their rookie contract anymore and would hinder us in terms of capspace.

Something like

Dragic/Bayless
DeMar/Forbes
PJ3/JJ/LK
Bargnani/AJ/Ed
Valanciunas/AG

would be a young team with plenty of potential and not bad cap-wise. Don't necessarily have to use our cap-space on Dragic but I'd be a lot happier if we could keep young guys like Ed, DeMar, JJ, and Bayless around to see how they develop because that could be a potentially lethal bench lineup, while we retain our core starting lineup (still missing a PG and SF) of DeMar, Bargnani, and Valanciunas. By adding one of the pieces from the draft, it allows us some cap flexibility to fill out the roster. Whereas if we trade up in the draft, there's still the chance of our pick not panning out and we'd also have lost a young asset giving us less to work with. If we trade the pick for a player then we'd probably be taking a salary cap hit and only be adding one player to our roster.

Exactly. Perry Jones III has a high center of gravity at 6'11", so he isn't going to react or move that quickly on the perimeter. Asking a 6'11" SF to get low on their defensive stance for 48-minutes is going to create all sort of pain/damage on his knees. Even LeBron James can't defend a PG/SG for long-stretches, and he's one hell of a physical specimen. So what makes PJ III can?
Basketball is like poetry in motion, cross the guy to the left, take him back to the right, he's fallin back, then just J right in his face. Then you look at him and say, "What?" - Jesus Shuttlesworth
