Exactly. Perry Jones III has a high center of gravity at 6'11", so he isn't going to react or move that quickly on the perimeter. Asking a 6'11" SF to get low on their defensive stance for 48-minutes is going to create all sort of pain/damage on his knees. Even LeBron James can't defend a PG/SG for long-stretches, and he's one hell of a physical specimen. So what makes PJ III can?

I want him to defend SF's, not pg's and sg's. Maybe Sg's on switches.

A questionable motor is a valid concern and probably the reason why he drops in the draft but the major problems with Bargnani have been defence and rebounding, and Jones has shown he can excel at both.

Lets see

he doesn't play hard
he is older then sophmores
No low post game to play power forward
Noth quick enough to guard small forward
Like bargnani he has no position in NBA
Plays defense like Bargnani
Has said before he doesn't want to play in Canada
Zero motor

It's amazing how Raptor fans can hate barnes who is younger and has shown more game and then Perry Jones who will most likely end up being Anthony Randolph then TMAC...

at #8, if Barnes, Lamb, Beal are off the board you take PJIII..... the reward outweighs the risk at that point in the draft & if he does pan out... if Casey can get through to him he could potentially be the best player in the draft.........

PJIII doesn't have the lateral quickness to defend the SFs up front. He's got good vertical quickness, though.

1. He scored 17 points and grabbed 8 boards against Anthony Davis. He has shown he can play hard.
2. He is in his second year of college, just like Barnes.
3. No low post game? watch a highlight reel or two.
4. Valid concern. I'm sure BC and scouts will be keeping an eye on whether he has the tools to guard small forwards.
5. He hasn't played a single game in the NBA, not sure how you know he has no position there. Ed Davis gets minutes, what makes you think PJ3 won't? Jones is taller, heavier, and faster than Ed. Jones measures out at 6'11 and 235, same as CB4 for comparison's sake.
6. If you mean he can't play good help defense, watch a game or two. He's not perfect but you're under-selling him by far.
7. Did you ever hear the original quote? Don't try to twist his words, he said he likes Toronto better than Dallas, one of the closest "big cities" to where he stays. It's customs he has a problem with.
Enjoy

8. You can say he disappears in some games. That's been a major concern, and I'm not a Jones fanboy, it's a risk the team will have to consider. But zero motor is stretching it. And given the fact that we are currently sitting at 8th, I don't think there are many players available with more potential, athleticism, and skills.

I never said I hate Barnes, I actually like him as a prospect but the level of hype he has gotten is ridiculous given the skillset he has demonstrated.

afaic, this kid's future is roses. he's a bit of an acquired taste but the scouting reports today are criminally outdated imo. i can't make sense of it. all this talk about his 'motor' has spiraled out of control (call it the kidd-gilchrist effect). if this guy fell in our lap i'd be thrilled. he's a quiet leader (i don't hear much- er, any?- talk about that), he already knows how to use his length on the glass and he's lethal in the open floor (w/ or w/out the ball). what's more, i've heard he knows how to hoop. ;) i guess he looks raw at first glance but if you saw him as a freshman you might appreciate how much his skillset has evolved over the past year (and continues to do). if he truly is pegged as a mid-first right now, i'd expect playoff teams to fall over themselves trading up. the reality is, though, i think the mocks are sometimes laggard to reflect changes in value (e.g. why was MKG ranked so low for so long?), especially when it concerns prospects who've been on the board for the better part of two seasons and whose flavour-of-the-month tag has long expired. i could be wrong but my gut informs me that pj3 will rise again with a bullet as soon as workouts/intvs come around and teams begin to reconcile old bias with new info... and if we landed him at 3, 8, 10 or 15, i'd be a happy dude either way.

don't. sleep.

He's only got that jumphook over his left-shoulder a la LMA. That's not much of a variety in his low post game.

I don't want Anthony Randolph v.2 here he's going to be the biggest bust of the 1st round. I would rather take Barnes/Lamb/Beal over him in a heart beat. Even Terrence Jones/Kendall Marshall/Damian Lillard would be better choices for me.

I could definitely see him getting a mortgage for a house on Brookea BargnLopez lane as a 20 and 7 best player on a 19 win team, "man that guy doesn't give a single f*ck about defense and rebounding" guy.

That's not a bad pick at 8. Andrea and Lopez are still probably good for being the 3rd best guy on a great team + are trade assets
It's going to be a glorious day... I feel my luck could change

See, this bothers me. Sully and Leonard get praised for their low post left shoulder hooks. And I really think he's doing it out of position. I still believe he's a 3. Only time will tell.

PJ3 just needs a good coach, definite high risk guy probably biggest in the draft, maybe behind Drummond, if we don't move up and we can't pull some draft night magic I wouldn't rage at the thought of drafting him.

What's funny is that I had lunch with Terrence Ross' agent yesterday. We talked about every possible scenario. Toronto never came up.
