Raptors NBA Draft Thread: Tony Wroten

Drawing accolades as one of the most talented young players in America since he was in 8th grade, Tony Wroten finally landed on the college basketball landscape and had a solid overall season for the Washington Huskies, prominently displaying both his many well defined strengths and weaknesses all year long. Washington's NCAA tournament hopes ended prematurely with a loss in the Pac-12 Tournament quarterfinals to Oregon State, and it couldn't have happened in a worse way for Wroten, who played a spectacular second half but missed four consecutive free throws in the closing possessions of the 86-84 game.

Standing somewhere between 6-5 and 6-6 with a solid frame, good length, and very good overall athleticism, Tony Wroten has a great set of tools for the shooting guard position, and even better one for a combo or point guard. Wroten plays with a very aggressive mentality on the offensive end, taking full advantage of his physical attributes at this level.

Wroten's offensive game revolves heavily on his ability to attack the basket off the dribble, both in the half court and transition. He's a very ball dominant player who sees the majority of his looks in isolations or pick-and-rolls, being a Tyreke Evans-esqe force at times lowering his shoulder and barreling his way into the lane.

Wroten has excellent ability to get to the rim at this level, having a strong first step, terrific ability to change speeds and directions with the ball, strong ball-handling ability, great instincts in the lane, and a mean streak going hard to the basket, as evidenced by his excellent 7.8 free throw attempts compared to just 13.1 field goal attempts per-game. His ability to create his own shot is an incredibly coveted skill in today's NBA, and is something that would likely translate over fairly quickly despite his young age.

This draft after the first pick isnt that stacked in high end talent. Theres a good chance that you find better players in the 10-30 range then in the 4-9 range. This draft is a deep draft, one where you might find alot of good young players but not alot of great ones. The important thing will be for BC to do his homework. Find the prospect he really likes in this draft and try to get him.

I wouldnt mind Tony Wroten Jr but not as a lottery pick. In the 20's he would be a very good pickup.

Tony Wroten is a top 5 player in this draft judging by talent. This is a team that is in a lot of need for it. Not to mention Casey is a guy who can straighten young players out.

The problem with Wroten is he can't shoot to save his life. .161 % from the College 3

Other then that hes got skills I'd consider possibly packing our 2 second rounders to
draft him in the 20's.

I'd definitely be ok packaging our 2nd rounders to move into the late 1st round for Wroten. I think he's like Tyreke, with worse finishing ability but better court vision/passing ability. Or a slightly less athletic Wall. Not a polished prospect but definitely has a lot of raw talent.

Don't really like him, but I'm against all the PGs in this draft, none of them really pop out to me as good NBA players, Wroten least of all.

We should still go for the actual Tyreke.

If we can get a late first rounder cheap, Wroten isn't a horrible consolation, but first rounders are gonna be expensive this year.

Arguably the most talented PG in this draft class, but not lotto material.

DO NOT WANT! He's turnover prone and can't shoot to save his live. When we need more shooters to help with spacing Wroten is the last player I'd look to draft with our lottery pick.

Very talented, but needs alot of grooming at the pg spot, and this talent deprived team should deff look into him but with a later 1st round pick or maybe early 2nd round. If we end up with him or QMiller with our 2nd pick then I'd say this draft is a success (based on we have to work with)

If we end up with the 8th pick we might not get anyone this board wants.

barnes
lamb
beal
MKG

will probably all be gone by the 8th pick.

we might a slight chance at lamb or we might end up takin Rivers or Percy jones.

Either way we should seriously consider trading this pick.

I wouldn't mind packaging the two 2nds to get him with a late first. He turned the ball over a lot last year, but his court vision is undeniable and we wouldn't be playing him big minutes off the bat anyways. He could probably learn a lot from somebody like Jose.
