Re: Raptors NBA Draft Thread: Damian Lillard
I'd prefer drafting Lillard if Lamb doesn't fall to us, and definitely won't take PJ3 over Lillard. But even I have to ponder whether Rivers or Lillard at our pick but the thought of getting a PG who might turn into a tier 3 type (Lawson, Holiday etc) seems quite hard to pass up. Let's hope he turns out to be what you guys think he'd be. If not, then he'll not only be a let down, but also a waste of a pick used on a 23 year old rookie.

Difference is he wont be as much of a project as some of these other kids are. He's already got the body and skill for it, so for Lillard it's all about just mentally figuring out the game at the NBA level then he's good. He's the type I think that can step in and produce in a big way instantly. Especially if y'all wanna talk about making the playoffs next season. it's not happening unless we actually bring in guys who can create their own shot and make dynamic jaw dropping plays just off skill alone.

The kid is 21 years old, so he's still relatively young and can still improve his game. He'd make more of an impact on our team then PJ3 would. Watch this vid on Lillard he's got a good head on his shoulders, works hard and wants to prove himself against the very best.

I already saw the clip long time ago on draft thread. My bad on him as 23, but as 22 years old rookie and turning 26 in his 2nd NBA contract. I'll have to say we need to stay away from PJ3, that's why I have no problem drafting Lillard at 8th, but right now I'm just going to patiently wait for a Raptors'/NBA scouts' thorough and legit evaluation on Lillard during draft combine/workout before thinking too seriously about him.

lol thats some specific estimations there. Might even be pretty accurate too

I would not be surprised if Lillard is BC's choice at 8. Ability to penetrate and kick/score seemed to be a skillset he favoured in bringing in TJ Ford, and the ability to play the PnR will be important with Valanciunas.
But if Lamb drops it will be a big question mark.

Drafting Lillard does depend on what the other team ahead of us do. It also depends on whether we move up into the top 3. I get the feeling that we'll stay put at 8th, but last year the 8th pick moved to number 1 so we could get lucky.

Re: Raptors NBA Draft Thread: Damian Lillard
Here's a Weber State game where Lillard scored 38. It looks to be about 75% of the game. He's #1 in black

Uhhhh I dunno. His offense within 10 ft looked non-existent in this game at least and a couple times when the D rotated hard on him he couldn't do much. More like a Foye/Mayo type of shot selection. I know he put up 52% 2P and 8 FTA so that has to indicate some ability w/ efficient inside shots, but I'd hope that's just not a result of Big Sky red carpet D. He looks like your classic 6'3-6'4 15-24 ft jumpshot SG here which is good for an NBA career but I wonder if that's what we're looking for

Nice screen and roll at around 5:09 with Lillard getting the screener an open jumper for a basket.

And that's exactly what I said many, many pages ago. He played against sub-par competition and players of his ilk are a dime a dozen and can always be found a lot later in the draft or even FA. Hell, Anderson scored for us and he was an NBDL call-up.
Would not take him over Marshall/Lamb at all.

Wait you guys. Are right
I don't want PDX swooping in on him with their earlier pick.

With a Demar / Lillard backcourt we'd have the potential to feast at the FT line.

Re: Raptors NBA Draft Thread: Damian Lillard
He hit 7 of 8 from 3 in the first half and 2 from the stripe. His team was down by 15. And Lillard went on an 8-0 run to close the game to 7 He told Bamforth at the half to keep shooting. Bamforth put up 19 in the second half and Lillard 15. Lillard took the game to the inside in the second half.playing all 40 mins of that game and the cats D shut down Poprtland. The Wildcats won the game.
11NBA scouts were at the game.
Lillard scored 38 on 23 shots. But it was the leadership and encouragement for Bamforth that was striking. He kept faith in the tea and they collectivly clamped down on D and executed enough on O to win.
The heavy 3s in the clips were because they needed the extra points from him to stay close and he made tough shot after tough shot. Step backs, catch and shoot off the ball screens.
Looks NBA to me

Not a big fan of taking this guy with a top 10 pick. I like his shooting range but other than that, nothing really stands out. He just looks "good", not outstanding.
If we were looking for a combo guard, I'd rather look at Austin Rivers.

Bayless will never be what you want him to be. And isn't strong enough to absorb continuous contact in the lane. We bring Lillard in and back him up with Calderon to add a change of pace and stability to the PG position and we're good.

The thing with Bayless is that he's only effective when he starts. He's also been getting injured too often for the pass two seasons, it makes me wonder how durable he's going to be. His injured his ankle about 4 or 5 times in the pass two seasons.
