I think he needs to work more on his handles and creating for himself. Often it looks very shaky. But yeah, outside shot (i.e. 3-pointer) definitely needs some work as well.

Quoted for gospel truth. His shot is productive when his feet are set but getting there is an adventure of Pee Wee Herman proportions.

Maggette says Henderson will be an All-Star. So I asked Henderson if he thinks about that: "All the time. I feel like I have that ability.''

It kind of seems like the Iguodala thing where he's a hell of a player for years but got no all-star respect until Philly put the wins on in the first half of this season.

Obviously Iggy is superior to Hendo but my point is that Defense and playing great team ball doesn't get the respect or attention it deserves.

If we can be a 45-50 win team and Henderson is our second option averaging 18/6/3 while playing all-world D then he will be an all-star imo.

i'm not going to get my hopes up about hendo transforming into an all-star level shooting guard.

i think the majority of following things would have to happen:
1) bobcats over .500
2) hendo averaging 20+ points
3) hendo getting talked about as 1st or 2nd team all-defense
4) hendo gets 3pt range
5) hendo averages 3+ assists
6) hendo gets to ft line 5+ per game

that seems like a huge leap of faith

The over .500 thing will happen, or the all star appearance won't matter anyway. I don't think he needs 20 points to get there. 16 could cut it with a 2nd team all defensive appearance. Wade doesn't have three point range and he gets in fine still.

Gerald should have been taking 20 shots per game. his lack of aggressiveness disappointed me

thats why i said the majority (not all)

look at wade
1) teams over .500 - yes
2) over 20+ - yes
3) 1st or 2nd team defense - yes (2nd team 3 times)
4) 3pt range - not really
5) 3+ assists - yes
6) 5+ ft attempts - yes

wade matches 5 of the 6. so if hendo can match 5 of the 6 then sure, he can get in w/out shooting 3s.

and lets be honest, did anything this season suggest hendo has a chance at being a 1st or 2nd team all-defensive player one day? i think this notion that he is an elite defender is a bit of wishful thinking on our part due to some good performances last year. i guess there is still hope that on a solid defensive team overall hendo's individual defense can look much better possibly causing him to gain a reputation. maybe. but when i see tony allen play defense, then i watch hendo, there seems to be a clear difference in the two. hendo right now is nothing more than a solid defender.

Wade is more than an All Star, he's a superstar.

Compare him to Joe Johnson and he does a little better.

joe johnson?

1) over .500 - yes
2) 20+ - yes (in 4 of his 6 appearances - the 1st 4 - i'd argue the last 2 years JJ is getting in on reputation and hasnt been deserved)
3) defense - no
4) 3pt range - yes
5) 3+ assists - yes
6) fts - 1 of 6, the first year he got in

hendo compares a little better with JJ compared to wade, no doubt.

on a random side note, just how many all-stars has maggette played with in his career (guys that made the team in the same year maggette was on their team)?

orlando - 0
clippers - brand
warriors - 0
bucks - 0
bobcats - 0

13 seasons and 1 all-star teammate. maybe maggette isnt the best person to judge all-star talent. ;)

In all honesty, I think he has shown to be a very good defender. It's just tough for the effects of a good perimeter to be realized when you play on such a crappy team. I watched a good amount of Bobcats' games this year and he looked pretty Wade-esque in that area (aside from some of the freakish blocks, which he isn't half bad at either).

Well he'd have experience in seeing near all stars who wouldn't make it! So maybe he sees hendo as different :p

It wouldn't be absurd to expect Hendo to get there one day though. He's got the mix of athleticism and skill that makes it a possibility.

This may be a little selfish, but I hope we extend him before he becomes an all-star or gets all-star level recognition around the league

That isn't selfish Stun that is good business.

I'd offer Hendo 5/30m-5/35 and if he doesn't accept let him hit the market restricted and match anything just over that.

He probably accept an offer of 35. He's not likely to get that kind of offer anywhere else. A lot of people probably don't know jack **** about the Bobcats and our players.

Start at 5/30 and end at 5/35, start out fair and end fair, leave the ball in his court so to speak.

After this season I don't see much chance of Hendo becoming more than a one shot deal allstar. He is to much of 3 trapped in a small 2's body. I think he will be an excellent role player, but this team would have to become top three in the east with him putting up monster numbers for him to become a perenial allstar. The only reason I don't advocate trading him for another pick is the fact that he lives here in the off season and is committed to being here and getting better.

I don't think anyone was expecting Hendo to be a perennial all-star, Quick. Even a one-time all-star appearance like Gerald Wallace would be exceeding my (and most others') expectations. I think he'll be a top ten shooting guard in the league, but I'm hesitant to go any higher than that.

That is why in my heart of hearts I really want to trade him for a shot at a scorer like Lamb or Barnes to build around Davis if we get him. But how can you trade a good player like Hendo who actually wants to be here? Mess around and look up to find the guy you traded him for asking for a trade.

I'd do the same thing we did with Wallace after he ended his 1st contract with us.

Offer Hendo something like 3/18 and tell him he has three seasons to prove himself and earn a big time contract like 4/40 with a player option 5th.
