Randy Wittman Deserves to Remain Coach

There needed to be a complete change of culture and a new voice in the locker room.

Randy Wittman is not the answer long term.

The next coach should be the guy they believe can make this a fifty win, top 4 seed caliber team. Wittman is not that guy.

I don't think Wittman "deserves" anything. He did a nice job, but that doesn't mean there isn't someone better. That said, I'd be okay with bringing him back. But I'd interview a bunch of candidates first.

How many late season runs has this team been on that has given everyone false hope?

Witt did a stand up job but I gotta take every thing with a grain salt. Especially considering all the teams we faced who were playing out the string.

Now I'm hearing "keep the coach", "we don't need much" and "let's keep Mason, Martin, etc..." and I can't but think that were all looking at this with rose colored glasses.

I think he deserves to be considered.

Some people here are focusing on just the last few games of the season, trying to explain away the end of season run. It isn't about that. Take away the month of April and we would still be saying Witt did a good job.

Can't add much - agree with the consensus that he should be considered, but if a better candidate presents himself, they don't owe Randy anything.

To put it in other terms, thinking about some of the coaches who have been mentioned here, my order of preference would be:

1. Dakota Dave
2. Randy Wittman
3. Mike D'Antoni


And still considering what I think of Nate McMillan.

Sadly, no - I suspect that my list would be upside down based on EG's history.

I wish they could/would commit to a young coach who can grow with Wall, this summer's draft pick(s), and the rest of the young guys. But would Ernie pick that guy if he's on a one-year tryout? And if Ernie's gone next summer, would the guy who gets hired as coach this summer be on the same page with the GM who replaces Ernie?

I wasn't to vocal about wanting Ernie replaced based on his recent track record. But the circumstances really make it hard to wade through these implications now that they have decided not to take a clean slate approach this summer. Oh well...

Yes - retrospect, like hindsight is always 20/20. Ernie should have pulled the trigger on Thibbs when he had the chance. I suspect he would be gun-shy to try again on Joerger, especially with him riding a two year extension as GM.
