Do not want a worse shooting version of Calderon.

LOLL you know you won't, if you're going just by stats then yeah sure he's not a good scorer but torsport said it better than I could've.

torsport wrote:I like this pick at 8. Watching Marshall this season. It wasn't that he couldn't score. He was scoring at will when UNC needed him to in the tournament. I think he chose not to score to defer to his teammates. I think his skills will translate well in the pros

I also think his impact will be more immediate and he won't be the project Bargs, Davis and Derozen have been.

Naismith I know you're depressed that we're going from Barnes to Lamb to Marshall, but the more I think about it, it could be the right fit. With Calderon done after next year, and Marshall running the 1, I think a lot of our players will get better ESPECIALLY Valanciunas. His passing is superb, and it's not like he can't shoot either (Rondo). Due to everyone (GMs) looking for the player that can score the most or impact the game the most defensively, he could be overlooked. This is going to be a very very interesting draft

Of course I'm exaggerating about quiting on this team entirely but I seriously will not watch much Raptor ball for the next 2-3 yrs (until they get a better wing) if they draft Marshall. He seriously will be such a parallel move for Jose (who after this year we can re-sign for much cheaper) and basically the team will feel like nothing happened other than adding Valanciunas.

Everyone's raving about his passing ability but you really think he's going to average more than 8pg?

Look at the players outside of Jose that are doing that. Not to mention he looks great now because he is up against such an awful crop of PGs in the NCAA....wait until he has to deal with a league LOADED with great PGs that are faster, bigger and more talented. There is nothing that leads me to believe his production will exceed what Jose already does or bring a different dynamic which makes me feel like he would be such a waste of a pick.

Guys will be rushing down the floor and moving knowing that if they are open and in a good position to score he will find them.

Bargnani is our only real scoring threat. The only way a shoot first PG would hurt the team is if we had other guys that could score. At this point we just need some offensive weapons no matter what position it is.

Food for thought...comparing PG abilities of Lillard and Marshall via swishscout (watching video and reading the comment by swishscout):

Core attributes

Passing:
Lillard

Marshall

Shooting:

Marshall

BB IQ:

Lillard

Marshall

Ball Handling:

Lillard

Marshall

Defence:

Lillard:

Marshall:

Athleticism :

Lillard

Marshall

Conclusion:

My personal opinion after watching that is that Lillard is a SG who could potentially develop as a PG but that's not certain while Marshall is a clear PG. On defence I would actually put these two as tied.

Marshall could have a much bigger impact on the Raps than other higher ranked players. Our team outside of Bayless and Bargs struggle creating offense. A guy like KM will really elevate Demar, JJ and Amir's games.

If we take Marshall, BC better use the cap space to acquire a top offensive swing player with range.

Have you watched Kendall Marshall play? I'll admittedly say that Marshall isn't the fastest or quickest guy in the half-court, but he's got a deceptively quick first step that he can beat his defender as soon as he turns the corner off of the pick. You don't need blow-by ability to get inside the paint. A few hesitation dribbles like an inside-out dribble is good enough for your defender to bite as soon as Marshall curves the ball when sizing up to get to the rim. And his finishing ability is fine with sprinkles of a buttery finger roll and bankers. Considering how jam packed the paint was, that's good.
Basketball is like poetry in motion, cross the guy to the left, take him back to the right, he's fallin back, then just J right in his face. Then you look at him and say, "What?" - Jesus Shuttlesworth

Yea Undefeated, if anyone watches every single game this season, one would know Marshall picks his spots really well, he'll drive slowly from p&r and once he goes in, he'll pretend to drive and kick but only ends up bursting in full speed str8 to the basket. Early season he wasn't able to do any of that but as season progresses, he learns when/how to drive better, and improves alot on his 3 pointer. In the final 5 games, he was able to penetrate the lane at least 4 times a half. So definitely I have to disagree with whoever that says he has pathetic finishing ability.

He was the best player on UNC for sure. I think he'd be a safe pick at #8... he's just a smart ball player at 20 y/o... that's hard to find in guys these days. The good thing with having him as our future PG is that we can give him time to grow behind Calderon or someone like Nash if we somehow bring him in.

Anthony Davis

Beal
T Rob
Lamb
Kendall Marshall

1 HOF 4 elite talents in this draft

Sullinger
Lilliard
Tony Wroten
MKG
Terrence Jones

Those will be very good basketball players

Barnes

With the potential they have, at least one of Barnes, Rivers, Drummond, or PJ3 will end up better than the guys in your "very good basketball players" section. Drummond and PJ3 especially will see their draft stock benefitted by their workouts. Barnes won't drop out of the top 7 unless he screws up his workouts with the lotto teams really badly.

As for Kendall Marshall, he's got what it takes to be a good point guard but his defense is suspect as well as his ability to score.

BC is such a gambler it is hard to believe they go for such a risk averse pick as Marshall. Then again if we walk away from Bayless he could fit nicely as the number 2 for less money despite being a bit too much like Jose. Ideally we draft a starter and that can only really happen by picking a small forward, a shooting guard or winning the lotto. In 2009 Thabeet went second and Jordan Hill 8th. Ouch. Jennings went 10th, Holiday17th and Lawson 18th. Could we be trading out of this lotto? Starting to look like a legit possibility.

Anthony Davis is already HOF before he ever stepped onto an NBA court? Is he also a rich man's Bill Russell?

The way BC keeps talking about we need better 3 point shooting makes me think if he drafts a point guard it will be Lillard not Marshall but I guess we will see .
