Because he already had a shot in the NBA and couldn't even get playing time in the D League.

He did not get a shot in the NBA he was 19, Kwame Brown did. And in the 6 games he played, he shot 50%. Early on he was stick skinny but he has put on bulk. Hard to believe that a team doesn't need a 7'3 player.

Ian Mahinmi. I know he's never going to be a star, and he's not anywhere near a franchise player, but every time I watch the guy I love what he does defensively and on the boards, and offensively he's wonderful off the ball. I'm glad he's finally getting at least some good minutes with Dallas, but imo, he should've been getting those minutes back in January and they might not be the 7 seed right now.

I think the lack of interest is mainly due to Utah asking too much for him. As great as he is, he's very undersized for a 4 and that creates a bunch of problem on the defensive side. Utah's best bet is actually to pacakage him with another good player for a legit all star, not to trade him by himself.

I am not sure this characterization is correct. The reason I'm not sure is that I have 2 young kids and very rarely get to watch Jazz games anymore. At least not for more than 5 minutes at a time. But, I have never known Millsap to be creating problems defensively.

The only player I saw that I thought abused him a bit this year was Dirk. And that was just with high degree of difficulty jump shots. I'm guessing that Dirk abuses about any PF in the league if they leave him alone on an island like we did with Millsap.

But, I'm going to have an open mind on the issue. Can you tell me who has abused Millsap this year? Or forced the Jazz into defensive problems due to Millsap? Are you basing your characterization on games you've seen or simply basing it off his listed height.

Got an open mind here, make your best argument, maybe I'll agree with you.

Like most other undersized PF with a strong base, Millsap is very good at holding his position when being backed down. He's also quick enough to handle fast forwards like Odom. Odom has tried to pull him out to the 3 point line so he can blow by him, didn't work, Millsap stayed in front of him.

The kind of bigs that give Millsap the most problem is the finesse ones. To be precise the ones who don't bother to out quick or out muscle him but simply shoot over him. I'm not talking just about jumpshots but any kind of post moves as well. Nowitzki, Duncan and Pau Gasol are obvious because they're perennial all stars but then there's David West, Zach Randolph and Lamarcus Alridge who posted their numbers with great efficiency against him last season.
West got 22 ppg on 54%
Randolph got 22 ppg on 53%
Alridge first 3 games against Utah, he posted 25 ppg on 52% (game 4 he stunk it up shooting 6-19)
Mind you, none of those are eye poppingly bad but it's not good enough for a contender. He didn't let them post career numbers on him but he didn't slow them down either.

I might miss other PF match up but those 6 are the ones I can remember on top of my head.

Millsap can play defense in stretches of games, but generally he's awful defensively and part of the reason the Jazz were second worst in the NBA in defending the rim and pick-and-roll (though Al was a much bigger part of that). Still a really good player though.

Can't come up with a great example as a Raptors fan, but for SFs per minute James Johnson is 1st in blks (by a mile), 6th in stls, 9th in assists and 9th in rebounds. He has his weaknesses by definitely provides a unique skillset and could be considered one of the best perimeter defenders in the league one day
It's going to be a glorious day... I feel my luck could change

Jonas is the only intriguing player we have because he is an unknown.

I was with you until you excluded a bad game from Aldridge. If we're going to blame Millsap for Aldridge's good game he should also get credit for his bad nights.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

That's the only thing you took out of my post?
Fine, let's look at this season then.
Alridge posted 25 and 27 points on 11/20 and 11/22 shooting against Millsap. That means in their last 6 head to head, he had 5 great nights and 1 really really bad one (12 points on 6-19 shooting). Sometimes shots just don't fall, can't attribute Millsap's defense to that.
