John Wall shot 28% outside of 3-feet this year

Post#1 » by picc » Tue May 1, 2012 6:23 pm

And 3-42 from beyond the arc. :o

http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/wi ... ory_1.html
Teams managed to neutralize his speed in the half court by staying back and daring him to beat them with his jumper, which he had little confidence in and took reluctantly. Wall made 61.9 percent of his shots inside three feet (237 for 383), but he struggled to connect from everywhere else. He shot just 27.6 percent (141 for 511) from three feet and beyond and Thorpe said his three-point shot “fell off the face of the earth.” He missed 39 of his 42 attempts from long distance; his 7.1 percent accuracy ranks as worst among any player to make a three-pointer this season.

“For two years, he’s regarded league-wide as a talented player with a couple of exceptional physical attributes, his speed in particular. But he seems to be a little stubborn in adjusting to the NBA game,” said an Eastern Conference advance scout, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not at liberty to make comments on behalf of his team. “You get the sense on the whole, he’s not doing a lot of thinking the game yet. He’s kind of run into a little bit of roadblock as far as understanding why what he’s doing isn’t good enough yet. I do feel there is a lot more that’s still there.”

Much more in article.

I really hope he improves and works hard in the offseason, he's a great young player and a good guy. Way too much talent to let such an important part of his game flounder like that.

Thankfully he's been so good at other things its hidden it pretty well, but if he develops even an average J it'll make him a lot more dangerous.

Wow. That could be the absolute worst in the league - regardless of position.

Who read that article and still thought or said, "I'll still take him on my team"?

I actually have a lot of faith in his potential. However reading him say this last year

"I didn’t have to shoot jumpshots when I was in high school; I just ran past everybody and just dunked and did whatever"

.....and still try and do the same thing this season is discouraging. He did however admit that he worked out wrongly over the offseason.

He used to be a beast in 2k12 until they lowered his midrange and 3 point range to the lower 60s

That is also what he was able to do a lot of in those summer pro-am games, that people were so hyped about. I said this is not good indication for NBA play, and Wiz fans said it was hating.

He was still an above average player overall- this just tells me that if he can get his shot to be average or even slightly below average he would be one of the best PGs in the NBA. The lack of improvement since he joined the NBA concerns me more than his absolute shooting ability.
