Re: John Wall shot 28% outside of 3-feet this year
Irving is a score first point guard. He's great at it, but doesn't look to set up teammates the way Wall does.
If there is one thing Wall has on Irving, its his ability to get his teammates involved. Rubio on the hand has great court vision and we all saw that. Irving isn't comparable to those two.

Ofc wall is a better rebounder being a bigger guard. Better defense than a rookie? I'm so surprised.
Iman Shumpert? Avery Bradley? There are plenty of rookies who are good defenders. Wall has a real talent there, shouldn't downplay it.

Irving does not have better vision than Wall, and no Irving isn't close to an amazing passer. Irving is closer to a combo guard than a pure pg. As a rookie Wall was a way better defender than Irving every will probably be. I really don't think you have seen Wall play more than once or twice, dude is already an elite rebounder and shot blocker. It seems like you are downplaying whatever Wall is good at and inflating whatever Irving is good at. Irving is an amazing shooter and plays a good pace, a nice little combo guard. He isn't a pure pg, he doesn't have great vision, and he sucks on defense.
"Wall has already shown plenty. Only Oscar Robertson, Damon Stoudamire, Tim Hardaway, Phil Ford and Chris Paul needed fewer games to score at least 2,000 points and hand out 1,000 assists, which Wall accomplished in 124 games. Since steals became a stat in 1970, Wall became the fastest player in NBA history to have 2,200 points, 1,000 assists, 600 rebounds, 200 steals and 90 blocks (134 games)."

Tyreke Evans is blushing.

Even Kobe is disgusted with those numbers.

I agree with the premise of this
What Wall did his rookie season is pretty irrelevant when considering he's made no significant stride in his game his sophomore season.. he's a worse shooter than Rondo right now, and I don't anticipate that getting better any time soon

Re: John Wall shot 28% outside of 3-feet this year
He's a hard worker, so i'm not concerned. His jumper will get better too. From mid January through to the end of Feb, his midrange jumper was money, typically off the dribble. Then he kinda fell into a slump in March and struggled to regain that confidence in his stroke. That's what it is a lot of the time with him; confidence. I've seen games when he's missed his first couple of jumpshots, and he's too scared to shoot it the rest of the way. It absolutely kills his half court game because defenders will play 5 feet off of him, baiting him to shoot (which he won't), and always go under the screen in the pick n roll.
That's my only real beef with his game at the moment. And yeah, his turnovers. But it doesn't faze me either, and if watched Wizards games you'd see why he turns it over as much as he does. The wizards halfcourt offense under Flip, and to a lesser extent Wittman, was absolutely trash. Just horrible, predictable sets. Wall would often turn it over trying to make something happen while everyone else stood around watching and waiting for him to draw a double team and get them an open look.
Other than that, he's got a terrific all round game for a PG. Best shotblocking PG in the league, best rebounding PG in the league (tied with Westbrook) and one of the best passing PG's in the NBA. He's also an excellent defender. If he can improve on that J, he'll have an absolute monster season next year.

How can you be a professional basketball player who operates on the perimeter with stats like that?
An NBA point guard who can't shoot more than 3 feet from the bucket? Was he really so content with driving past people that he never took the time to develop his shot?

I said I'd take Kyrie over him without hesitation and got ripped to shreds
He's got one last year to prove he can be a good player or people will give up on him, if he hasn't given up on himself by then.

Nope nope nope, no one cares about shooting!
Now that Rose is atheletically crippled for the next 1-2 years, we'll see how important shooting is. This new generation of atheletic PG with broke jumpers....
If Wall suffers a Rose style injury, there goes that career.
Irving is a rookie and is already a top 5 shooting PG in the league. That man is a keeper. Even with an injury to the knee, he can still play basketball.

LOL, at people throwing around the 'bust' label. Do you guys even know what that means? If he never improves from what he is right now (terrible jump shooter, great finisher in transition, ok free throw shooter who can get to the line, above average to good passer for a PG, sometimes too careless with the ball, can get frustrated with general stupidity of teammates, good rebounder for position, pretty good defender) he would not be a bust.
Just because he hasn't matched the trajectory of fellow number 1 pick Derrick Rose (who happens to be the youngest player ever to win an MVP award) does not make him a bust. I guarantee you that if they had a redraft, the Wizards pick Wall number 1 again (if only because Cousins would have exploded in the environment the Wizards had for most of the last two years).

I always wonder how people evaluate assists on this site. It is as if a busted and low ts% is fine if you have 8 assists. A guy scoring 23.6 points on 56% ts and 5.5 assists is worse than a guy who scores 12 and 12 assists on 48 ts%. John Wall is a high turnover prone point guard who led a team in the bottom 10 in scoring.

He's putting those numbers while playing for the Wiz. Not gonna count him off yet. The talent is there, but there ain't going to be a coming out party for him with that roster.
