CCJ, Chad Ford likes your man Barton:

Andy (New Jersey)

Who do you see as the potential biggest steal of the 2nd round?
Chad Ford
(1:11 PM)

I'm intrigued with Memphis' Will Barton. Has a NBA game. Good athlete. Very long. Has a great mid-range game. Rebounded very well for a guard. A lot of talent there. You could argue he was better than Jeremy Lamb this year.

Making extreme statements like "only" sounds like there are "no" Jokics in this draft? Jokic is an engine that was drafted in the 2nd round. Always a chance to see diamond dropped by sloppy burgular after a theft.

Davis has been dethroned as the #1 prospect in YODA. The sophomore season of Shaquille O'Neal rates better. Shaq's junior year is percentage points behind Davis. Davis still the highest ranking freshman prospect, of course.

Shaq's sophomore season was MONSTROUS. Per 40 minutes, he averged 35.1 points, 18.7 rebounds, and 6.4 blocks -- shooting 62.8% from the floor and 63.8% from the FT line. About the only thing to criticize about that season was his 4.5 turnovers per 40 minutes.

Nivek, if you get a chance can you see what Chris Jackson / Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf looked like in YODA?

Hi all -- new to this board, although I know at least some of you from elsewhere (hi doc!).

Can someone please tell me what the acronym YODA stands for, and please also provide a link to learn more about it. Thanks.

As I've drummed my fingers waiting to be admitted, I've been lurking and am happy to find other people equally interested in Jae Crowder, Will Barton, Marcus Denmon, and other under-rated players in this draft.

On the other hand, the proposal to trade Booker -- clearly one of our very best players -- I don't get. Ditto the notion to take on Ben Gordon (please, please, no...).

Then again, I'm a newbie. I imagine I'll have to take some abuse for having strong notions right out of the box! :D

No you'd take crap if you didn't have anything interesting to say. Or if you started pointless threads when one already exists. So far you're batting 1.000.

I think we all like Booker. I'm not sure what his production was like as a starter (perhaps 13 and 8) but he has limited upside due to his height and outside shooting. Great rotation player, tough, and probably good in the locker room as well. But he may be the best player to trade as we are full of PF's and weak on the wings.

Welcome PIF. Can I call you piffy?

YODA is "ye olde draft analyzer" developed by Nivek, one our respected elder statesmen who's handy with a slide rule. It projects pro performance based on various college stats, physical attributes (possibly including bowleggedness -- sorry, that's an inside joke) , etc.

Do you known doc offline? You need to spill the beans on this guy. He's like the man in black from Princess Bride. Hm...maybe he really is a pirate.

I think many of us like Booker well enough. It's just that we now
correctly or otherwise, perceive there to be a potential logjam
at the 4 even before we win the lotto and draft Davis.
RIght now one could envision Nene, Vesely and JSingleton
as a reasonably decent rotation at the 4.

Therefore, we are looking to potentially deal Booker for
a equivalent talent at a position of greater need ie the 2/3.

Without looking at any stats, I'm guessing he was probably best in his frosh year. He turned out to have the worst shot selection I've ever seen and went from being a lot of fun to watch to be a joke.

I've always pictured doc as more of a Miracle Max kinda guy.

If elder board members are being compared to Princess Bride characters... Miller is Prince Humperdink, right? ;)

M'sieur Nivek -- please explain what YODA entails and how one computes (divines?) it!! Thanks.

I know Doc from another board. Other than being a Wizards fan, he gives every appearance of being a rational, even thoughtful individual.

I'd go so far as to say that, unlike the majority of posters on the majority of boards I've frequented across a wide range of subjects, he doesn't seem to be convinced that something is 100% true and even a priori just because he typed it in a moment earlier.

I warn you; I'm not like him! I'm almost always correct. In fact, I'm only wrong when misinterpreted! 8-)

Perhaps a better title then.

The Draft Lottery: Odds of winning, is it rigged. Kind of like you explained above.

Call me crazy, but when I read "2012 NBA Draft Lottery", I assume it's a thread to talk about the 2012 NBA Draft Lottery. Maybe that's just me.

Nate is crazy.

But we already knew that

There is a thread called 2012 NBA Draft. Did we really need one called 2012 NBA Draft Lottery.

How about 2012 NBA Draft 2nd round. I'll get right right on that.

Well, we certainly have a greater need at 2-3 than anywhere else at present, but you may be more certain than I that a) Vesely has proven his NBA worth (no question he improved a lot the last 1/3 of the season) and b) EG is smart enough to re-sign James Singleton.

Have I somehow missed the "equivalent talent at... the 2/3" that we'd get in return for Booker? Who would that be -- I'm confident nobody thinks that Ben Gordon fits the bill. Or...?

You should fit right in then.
