D-backs and Coyotes are the talk of the town right now. Suns fell from that conversation and once add players that know how to win then that will change.

Guys -

Keep it Simple.

Draft smart. Only sign veteran free agents if you're sure they keep Nash in town. If not, no 4-year contract knee jerks. If Nash leaves, trade Gortat for a 2012 1st.

Scout the **** out of every player - let's pull a Spurs and find some guy hidden in the D-league or overseas. We're not a big market, we need to be creative.

The only part that got me excited was this from ESPN:

Babby said the team's biggest need is for a "dynamic scorer," preferably one in the post. That's not an easy find in any year and this is not considered a great season for free agents. Babby said that rather than sign a free agent, the Suns could use some cap money for "one-sided trades."

I smell Josh Smith for Gortat

I can't think of too many other dynamic post scorer that would be available via "one-sided trade"

I don't get the first part, for I don't see any team trading someone they just drafted a week or two earlier, once we would find out that Nash has gone, it would be way after the 2012 draft. And I am not even sure how that works. I know you can do draft day trades, but I don't remember any draft picks getting traded right when FA period starts. I think maybe Yi, but wasn't he signed first and then traded?

As for your second thought, I have been saying that for a long time now. Our scouting has to improve if we are ever going to partially build with the draft.

Josh Smith isn't exactly a "dynamic post scorer". He's basically like Amar'e was except without the post moves and aggressiveness.

and what exactly is a "one-sided trade"? Does he mean we take on a ton of money in return for some guy the other team is desperate to move? What exactly does that accomplish?

What he means is we can offer teams cap space. Say we were interested in a Gortat for Smith trade. If we were over the cap, the trade would have to be even money wise, and Atlanta would have to take back more "filler" players to make the trade work. Since we are under the cap, we could trade Gortats $6.5M contract straight up for Smiths $13M contract.

So pretty much we are able to take back more salary than we give in a trade.

What Babby is saying is they're going to trade for Amare, giving the Knicks 18mil in his expiring contract, the Knicks fans will rejoice while Sarver believes Amare is exactly what we been missing since he left.

Or he's saying he's going to swap picks with the Jazz in the draft, and then the Jazz also give us Paul Millsap. This gives the Jazz flexibility to sign a SF or PG during this offseason.

Has anybody heard eyt wether their team expects marvin williams to be attached to any trade offers for smith? And if so, Is there any teams that come to mind that we could involve to take him for another piece or something? Any thing come to mind in a 3 team scenario even? (if need be) to make the trade work?
