Re: Official John Wall Appreciation Thread
I saw Barton play on the tube 3-4 times and I saw him live at the Verizon earlier this year when Memphis played the Hoyas. I really wasn't that impressed. Barton may turn out to be an excellent NBA player, but Beal seems to me to be far more well-rounded and disciplined.

Re: Official John Wall Appreciation Thread
Barton is no Melo.
I think he's a good mid 2nd rounder - which is probably where he'll go. He's improved, but he's awfully skinny and not great at anything. I think his strength will limit him just as much as his skills in the NBA. He could benefit from being in the D League for a couple of years.

Although I don't see it happening, Wall would probably benefit from practicing with the Olympic team, somebody there ought to be able to help him with his shot.

I think Barton is worth a pick in the 20s or so. I don't think it can be denied he was better than Jeremy Lamb this season. And I think he's better prospect than the other Lamb too.

I'm not even a Jeremy Lamb fan, and I think it's too close to call. Lamb shot better. He made 60% of his 2's. Both of them were mediocre at best from 3, but Lamb has the better outside stroke. Lamb's a far better talent. He's several inches longer, and even though he's skinny, he's got a build advantage over Barton - who's 180 with a brick in each hand. Barton's rebounding at his size and position ain't gonna carry over to the NBA. What NBA high level skill does Barton have that's going to carry over to the NBA? Is there any one thing that he does real well? No. Stick figures don't do well in the NBA unless they're exceptionally skilled. He's not worthy of a 1st round pick, imo.
Edit - C'mon Dat, you're better than Chad Ford. He made the same comment you did about Barton.

Yikes, I may need to rethink my opinion now, lol.
Not saying Lamb isn't the better talent, but Barton had the better year. I'd still take Lamb over Barton, but I still have Lamb as being slightly overrated and Barton being slightly underrated. If Lamb is in the teens then Barton should be about 10 spots lower.
Off the subject, I'm still wondering why Drummond gets dogged out on here while people seem to give Lamb a pass for his disappointing year.

Re: Official John Wall Appreciation Thread
J. Lamb is the most overrated prospect in the draft IMO. His shot-creation ability and off-the-ball game are overrated. No slashing game at all. Plus he lacks aggression. He has a good shooting stroke, but he doesn't impact the game much at all besides shooting.

Now THAT'S good news. That is the type of summer league ball I'd like Wall to play.
Anthony Davis is going to be invited as well. It would be so awesome if he and Wall develop a rapport, and then we get the #1 pick in the lottery!

From your keyboard to God's ears! Amen.
Just let the young boys play! It's truly the only hope at this point.

Well, let me correct that.
YODA likes Barton over Lamb. Barton has a mid-first round rating; both Lambs (Doron and Jeremy) are in the late-1st/early-2nd tier. Jeremy Lamb rated better as a freshman.

Some time with Coach K is probably the best thing that could possibly happen to Wall.

Also will be spending time with possible soon-to-be coach D'Antoni....

The best thing that could happen to Wall is to spend some time with a shooting coach and to take about a zillion jumpers a day. Hopefully, he get to do both those things this summer as well.

John Wall invited to join team USA
The good news: John Wall is reportedly joining Team USA as a member of the select team that will scrimmage against the 2012 men's basketball Olympic squad this summer.
The interesting angle: This opportunity gives the Wizards speedy point guard a potential leg up on making the 2016 Olympic team.
The potential international buzz kill: Notable basketball decision-makers are looking at a 23-and-under roster format for future Olympic games.
Before we look ahead, let's focus on the present - and the present that comes with the invitation, which multiple outlets have reported. Instead of spending a second straight summer time playing in loosey-goosey charity games, Wall should be battling the likes of Chris Paul, Deron Williams and Russell Westbrook during intense scrimmages.
Actually there was no fear of another summer fun circuit - "Nah, I’m cool on that, " Wall said the day after the season finale win over the Heat. "I’m done. It’s just workouts. I ain’t having none, that was just because of the lockout it was too much time."
Earlier that week, I asked Wall if he was going to attend any NBA playoff games in person and which point guards the maturing floor leader would study during the off-season. Seeing as he intended on doing the bi-coastal thing between D.C. and Los Angeles, Wall said he would hope to catch Paul and the Clippers in addition to the Lakers, who could face Westbrook and the Thunder in the second round.
Now Wall might get some hands-on lessons from those All-Stars.
Even with Derrick Rose's knee injury taking him out of the Olympic mix - big men Dwight Howard, LaMarcus Aldridge and Lamar Odom are also not expected to join the team's training camp - Team USA is still flush with point guard options. Unless Paul, Williams and Westbrook opt out or are injured before the London games, that trio will run the offense.
Team USA will train in Las Vegas July 6-11. After an exhibition against the Dominican Republic on July 12, the U.S. team will move operations to Washington for two days worth of practices before hosting Brazil in an exhibition game on July 16.
But what about future U.S editions? http://www.csnwashington.com/basketball ... edID=10480

True. Just look at what it did for McGee.
Seriously, though, I do think that this can be a great development opportunity for Wall.

Re: Official John Wall Appreciation Thread
If Coach K straightens out John Wall's jumper I will become a Duke fan.
Otherwise, I hope John puts lots of time on his jump shot and doesn't get a net effect NOTHING out of being a practice team player. They'll put Kyrie Irving on that team before Wall. It is one thing to have the chance to work with elite coaching and to represent one's country. I don't see Wall playing if guys like Chris Paul, Deron Williams, and Russell Westbrook are in front of him.
Unless it does something for Wall that it didn't do for Javale, I would rather see John Wall take care of himself and put a lot of time on his jumper. Can't he still play with the summer league team?
If Wall can do both the national team and summer league, then I'm all for it.
