I can't read this guy. He reminds me of Rick Brunson/Eric Snow. Not sure I would take him #8 but then again I wasn't high on Deron Williams either and look how he turned out :)

He's nothing at all like Rick Brunson or Eric Snow.

is andre miller a good comparison for marshall? DX has AM as his best case scenario, which i'd take and run with the 8th pick.

Jones, Rivers, Lillard and Sullinger over Marshall. Might aswell trade the pick for Andre Miller.

Like his poise and leadership but he is lacking dimensions in areas we covet. Limited scorer and flat defender. Sorry, would rather take a chance on Sullinger over a PG that delivers qualities we will already be paying for in Jose.

And if I had a choice over Marshall or Damian Lillard, I am taking Lillard. Way more explosive, solid scorer whose only knock is he doesn't distribute well. In context to the team he played for, he was not being asked to deliver dimes. And watching some of his games, when teammates were producing, he was finding them. Just rarely happened.

does Casey's offence really need a high-profile pg anyways? the year Dallas won, Jason Kidd's usage rate was only 14%. Can't remember how important he was to their offence but that's pretty small

if Casey wants everyone passing it around and making plays, maybe they just want a pg who's good at pickroll and defence. You can get that without spending a lottery pick.

It's a valid point. I think this roster needs a good playmaking PG, but it's such a flawed roster that we shouldn't be building specifically around it, and I think it will change significantly next season to better suit Casey's system.

Really, it's hard for any PG to stop an on-ball player without hand-checking. As long as Marshall can learn to steer/funnel his man to where the help defense is by taking away their vision and putting them out of their comfort zone, I'd called that a success. If he can use his size like he did at UNC, he should be average defensively in the NBA.

completely agree. And steering takes strength

there's always going to be a couple athletic freaks like rondo and westbrook who just speed-blitz you, but amongst the other 28 starters and 30 backups, strength has supplanted speed for physical tools requisite to guard the perimeter

imo

lol that's pretty strong. I consider you pretty trustworthy why do you hate it so much?

this is the first day I've really read up about him but the draft experts makes him sound pretty damn good. Type who can dissect a defence and make his 4 teammates all a little better, instead of using them to make himself better like bayless does, and lilliard sounds like he'll do

he's got the style we need anyways, probably. If we need a gunner or late game changer, let our off-guard do it like they're supposed to. Point is supposed to organise and make the offence smooth, not throw everyone under the bus to get their own, and make them scramble all game to be the random guy who happens to be open off a drive and dish play

Agreed. I like Kendall Marshall, but certainly not at 8th.

I like Marshall and Lillard, but I can't help but feel it'd be a bit analogous to taking a B level QB or RB in the top 10 in the NFL draft. If you're not getting a star, there's options out there that don't cost a top 8 pick. See if Machado or Teague fall to 37 and if they don't, maybe see what Charlotte wants for DJ Augustin or if Sac is giving up on Jimmer this early. Basically it's the "Miami is dumb for taking Tannehill top 10 when they could've taken Orsweiller in the 2nd or Cousins in the 3rd" analogy

I have seen him a few times and he reminded me of Rick Brunson. But again not enough to form a good opinion

I'm becoming more and more sold on Marshall with the 8th pick. I think his upside is being pretty underrated. He could just "special" as a passer.

But I don't even know if I like him more than Scott Machado. So getting something like Lamb 8, then Machado 37 (or take some salary, add 55, maybe throw in Ed to move enough to do it) = :o draft

So guys noone else besides me feels this pick? PG's with such a court vision and passing skills are rare to find he just seems to be perfect fit for Raptors especially with Jonas coming. DX listing him as worse cast scenario: Marc Jackson says its no brainer for me.
Steve Kyler ‏@stevekylerNBA
Marshall a little better athlete than expected... a drive to the rim mentality. One of the players here said "best playmaker he's ever seen"

Marshall has that special playmaking ability that you don't see too often;
However his offensive game (which is limited to begin with) will further suffer in the NBA unless he makes a quantum leap this summer.

With that said; its rare that you can land a guy who looks like his upside is "elite" in any aspect of his game, and I think Marshall has the potential to be an elite playmaker in the NBA, but I don't think he will give you much else.

I like him at 8 but not much support for that on this board. I agree that one elite skill which makes everyone else better is tremendous value. He is a big pg and will score enough to keep defenders honest. If Lamb is gone I would be all over him. Comparisons to what we have don't wash. He would be a huge upgrade. Just think of our wings running and getting the ball in full flight; Andrea or Demar getting the ball with more than 2 seconds on the clock and JVal getting dishes for easy dunks.

I think that's one of the bigger concerns with him, because I don't think his offense will keep defenders honest. He will be pressured extensively at the point of attack.
