I decided to look at PERs for players picked 8 to 14 in previous drafts
06:
Gay - 17.8
POB - not in league
Sene - not in league
Redick - 15.1
Armstrong - not in league
Thabo - 9.8 (great defender though)
Brewer- 12.3 (great defender)
07 -
B Wright - 21.1, limited minutes however
Noah - 19.6, great defender
Hawes - 18.1
Law - not in league
Young - 18.9
J Wright - not in league
Thornton - not in league
08 -
Alexander - not in league
Augustin - 14.1
Lopez - 19.3 in last real season
Bayless - 17.7
Thompson - 16.4
Rush - 15.2
Randolph - 17.6, limited minutes
09 -
Hill - 15.8
Derozan - 12.8
Jennings - 18.4
Williams - 13.5
Henderson - 14.0
Psycho T - 14.7
Clark - 8.1, headed out of the league
10 -
Aminu - 10.6
Hayward - 15.5
George - 16.5
Aldrich - 17.7, very limited minutes
Henry - 9.2, headed out of the league
Davis - 14.2
Patterson - 11.5
Of 35, 19 were under 15 PER or not in the league. That number includes a few valuable players like Brewer/Thabo/Psycho but also excludes a few like Hill, Bayless, B Wright that the drafting teams didn't get anything out of. The players I consider undoubtable successes for the team that drafted them are Gay, Redick, Noah, Young, Lopez, Jennings, Psycho, George and Hayward. (9/35) Also the total amount these players have traded teams in this 6 year window is staggering.
This is the biggest reason why you have to draft BPA. The number of teams who get no return on their draft pick in our position is ridiculously high. Beggars can't be choosers
It's going to be a glorious day... I feel my luck could change
