So I went to my 3rd Jays game..

Post#1 » by kavan » Tue May 1, 2012 11:23 am

Now everyone said it was too early to judge some of our talent that was failing after my visit to the Rogers Center vs the Rays.. Its been a month now and I went to another game vs the Rangers yesterday..

It is more apparent then ever that we have holes in the line up and our pitching out of the Pen is a little suspect. We are starting to look like a team on the outside looking in, because of our ability to not be able to close out big games (2-1 late in the game, that you have to manufacture a run playing small ball too many 2 runners on no outs or 1 outs where we did not score. You score a run with the game tied maybe you dont make a pitch they hit out the park late the in the game. Personally Jason F should have come in). Pitching was great, except for the two solo shots late in the game that basically sealed our fate. Yu looked great, no matter what anyone says he would have been a great addition to our team. You can never have enough good players on one team.

Now to our hitting that made Yu look Yu-tiful

JP - Bat has wholes in it

Jose - I will give him this much, Big Man Albert on the West coast in Anaheim is not doing too well himself so until people start cutting him up for having an off year I will let Jose ride this out but I think his presence may still be a factor. I am sure no pitcher wants to be the guy to let Jose break out on him as he still has the bat to be effective.

E5- He is still on a tear, But empty bases ahead of him don't help us win games.

Colby - At this point I would not mind seeing Snider brought up to platoon the outfield more so, maybe bringing Visquel on was not the best idea.

Lind - I think has faded from the player he was, if it wasn't for the picks and scoups at 1B he would be on his way out.

The rest of the guys get on base and get hits when we least expect it and they are still coming in on their own. I think once the team builds confidence and the guys we rely on start hitting we can get it rolling.

Future Concerns as of what I have seen thus far: Catcher, First Base, Center Field and Left Field.

Then again maybe April was a bad month for us if we bend over vs Baltimore in another series we will finish at the bottom of the AL because these teams came to play ball.

Side Note; Tigers and Angles are still waiting to turn it around.

This to a strong start for May to turn things around, I really think we have the make up to be a contending team we just need a few pieces that we are missing out of ST that we thought we may have had.

Centre - really? Rasmus is having a comeback season IMO.... I see no problems there. Left and First for sure...

Agreed. Center is the least of my worries.

Wanna bet? lol

Seriously though, none of those positions are ones to worry about. Catcher we have D'Arnaud coming up, center we have Colby and one day Gose, left we have Snider. Those might be slight current concerns but not long term.

I just feel like all this negativity is quickly turning this in to the raptors board, every loss and now we have a bunch of panic threads. The jays are struggling and still above .500, imagine what will happen when Jose gets his bat going and farell and the bullpen get their **** together.

If on June 1st they are still struggling you can start getting worried, until then threads like this are garbage. The goal is October baseball, it just turned May, relax.

1B and C are what really stand out.

SS and RF are concerning but I fully expect both Escobar and Bautista to bounce back sooner of later.

CF is fine. LF is fine.

^ If Jose gets it going? Now when you mean he gets it going you see another 40+ HR ? Colby is doing alright but if you look around the league you need production not "he's alright" to becoming a winning team. If we should not worry about these positions now because we have guys up and coming that means we are accepting the fact we are going to suffer at these positions currently which may cost us that extra spot for the play offs.

This is not like the Raptors board but we are critical of seeing a team fall apart that is what fans do. We all wish we could be a GM or a Manager of a team if you dont then that is on you. I think we are missing pieces or players from stepping it up as it sits we are just that a team barely over .500. You can keep watching it for entertainment and I will continue to watch hoping to see a contender.

I don't mean to single out the OP here, because people do this all the time, but I really hate when people go to a game live and think that that somehow gives them better insight than people who watch the game on TV.

No just means, I put more then just time on the forums in being a fan, I spend my money and invest my time into making the reach passed my TV from being a fan. At the same time its fun as hell, I am not offended or anything, but if you really care about something your more involved then from home. A lot of things can be done from the comfort of your seat. Not saying were not watching the same game just saying I care enough to go see them play and support them as I am sure you do but you dont have the time or havent been able to make it out to a game =)

Today was a good show by the Boys, Lind may see the same fate as Hill did, he has not showed up to place since Hill last did. I think EE to 1B and someone with a bat in the DH roll maybe the next way to go about it.

i've been to 3 games so far, have tickets to 7 more, and will likely end up going to 15-20 total this season. but it doesn't mean i could provide much more from an observational standpoint than anyone watching from a broadcast. a person watching from home could have come to the exact same conclusions mentioned in the OP.

i mean, thanks for sharing, but the analysis you provided would really not have been any different if you watched the game from home instead.

and i'm still not sure why people keep insisting that CF is a concern. colby is fine...he's playing amazing defense, has had some timely hits, runs the bases well, and is finally in a comfort zone with this team. it's great knowing that we're not trotting out corey patterson or adam loewen or darrin mastroianni or mike mccoy out there on a daily basis...or even have vernon's joke of a contract still on the books. enjoy knowing that we have an above-average defender in CF who's offense is not even close to it's ceiling as yet.

Bautista outplays his contract by more than $70 million over the next four seasons (2013-2016).

Colby has finished negatively in UZR/150 in 3 out of 4 of his seasons in the OF. He is an average to below average defender with an UZR/150 in the OF of -2.8 UZR/150 (3500 innings played).

That being said, he is way better than any alternative on this team and does hit a lot of LD. I don't worry about him in CF, he will do just fine but he is not an "above average" defender.

What time do they let you in the building? Haven't been to a game in a few years since I'm not in Toronto but last time i went they wouldn't let me in an hour before it started.

I'd like to catch batting practice sometime if i could.

If you watch the games you can clearly see he is an above average defensive CF. Stats be damned, I believe my eyes.

Well that subjects you to bias. By the way I've watch every single game both this season and last. I bet even you haven't.
