Re: Official Trade Thread: Part 3
I would be all for bringing back Amare.
A go to scorer in the post... A player who one year ago was playing like and MVP, carrying the city of New York on his back.
Sure his rebounding is sub-par, but is our current starting PF any much better? His scoring is still elite when he doesnt have Carmelo Anthony shooting 35 shots a game.

Now, Phoenix Suns is a cheap team, they will not spend money in good players. Period.

I don't know if you can call them cheap, for they do spend the money. However I will agree that it is usually not on good players, or players that the coaches will play.

Re: Official Trade Thread: Part 3
Gortat/Dudley/Warrick to ATL for Smith/Williams/#23.
That gives Atlanta a real good team with: Teague/JJ/Dudley/Horford/Gortat
Then we sign Mayo.
Nash/Telfair
Mayo/Redd
Hill/Williams
Smith/Morris
Lopez/Frye
Draft PJ3 and Arnett Moultrie.

No to Stat....
Guys, you DO KNOW he is getting paid 20 MILLION DOLLARS A YEAR!!!!
to score 23ppg and grab 8rpg... and let his man score 30 a game... no one learnt a lesson?
Maybe if he agrees to a re-structure.... 3 year deal at 10 Million a year, with 3rd year as team option.

Id rather go after the guy with 18.8 PPG, 9.6 RPG, 3.9 APG, 1.9 BPG, 1.4 SPG @ 1 year, $13.2M
Way way way way way better defender as well!

Re: Official Trade Thread: Part 3
Gortat + 13th pick for Harden? Babby says they'll probably match nearly every any offer for Lopez. So if he gets a big payday, no sense in him coming off the bench. Hope the Thunder fans would like it. Gives them another pick to potentially replace Harden with Lamb/Rivers and an offensive option in the post.

I thought Smith only had 1.7 blocks per game this season? Plus I didn't know he shot so poorly from the free throw line.

You guys have got to get off the Harden teat. Every day someone is conjuring up some deal to get JH this or next yr.
REALLY ? Do you think OKC is going to part with him this yr ... simply because they may have a challenge in signing him next ???
Or are you of the belief they'll just shrug their shoulders next yr and say, 'Oh well, we cant afford all of these good players so James... you'll have to go'
Give it up... you might as well be dealing for Durant. He is that valuable to them.
What ? Me Worry ?

Agreed. Josh Smith should be our #1 (realistic) offseason target. Hawks need center and we have 2 of them.
Harden is great but I also highly doubt Thunder would deal him this summer.

Re: Official Trade Thread: Part 3
A dinamic scorer that we can obtain via trade is Kevin Martin. We can absorb his contract or something similar, he only has one year remaining ($12,439,675) and can be a 20+ point per game player easily with Nash, he is a real proven scorer.

Re: Official Trade Thread: Part 3
If Nash stays - going after a Smith makes sense. But not if he leaves.
I read the trade threads on the main board all the time - and these two trades stuck out at me:
PHX/POR
Gortat for POR 2012 1st
PHX/NJN
Cap Space + PHX 2014 2nd* for Morrow* + Farmar + Petro + HOU 2012 1st
The inclusion of Morrow from NJN is a maybe - depends on how they do in FA i suppose. If Morrow isn't included, take out the PHX 2nd.
We don't care about cap space next year, 2013 is the target anyways, and we get two 1st rounder this year in a deep draft.

Re: Official Trade Thread: Part 3
The Suns should simply trade their 2012 top three protected lottery pick to Houston for Kevin Martin and Marcus Morris. Houston wants to get rid of Kevin Martin and it is an expiring contact after next season. We can absorb those two contracts outright this offseason.
Steve Nash is obviously coming back and Kevin Martin gives us the wing scorer both Coach Gentry and Lon Babby have referred to. Martin averaged more then 20 points a game for three out of the last four seasons.
We then resign Shannon Brown, Grant Hill, Robin Lopez, and Aaron Brooks.
Our first team would be: Nash / Martin / Hill / Gortat / Frye.
Our second team would be: Brooks / Brown / Dudley or Morris / Lopez / Morris.
This would be a competitive playoff team with only two guys over age 30.

That isn't a competitive playoff team, it's the same team plus Martin who's a horrible defender. We'd have the worst defense backcourt in the league. Nash needs to go to Indy or Portland. I don't think he'd play for Thibb's slow system although I'd love to see him in Chicago.

Guest on Arizona Sports 620's Burns and Gambo, Suns owner Robert Sarver said the team will have money to spend, and there are some players who they're interested in spending it on.
"A number of them have some interest in our franchise, and we have interest in some of them," he said about the league's free agents. "We'll have to see how it plays out."

I see this all the time.
And why doesnt it make sense if Nash Leaves? Hell, id say its even more a reason to do it if Nash is gone. We still would be lacking a good PF, and a player that is full of badass-ery like Smith. He's still young (26), hell start building around him! Even with Nash gone, we are still going to be lacking scoring, rebounding, and defense!
In my book, Smith is a top 5 PF, and its crazy because thats not even his natural position!
So once again, i pose to you this question, why doesnt it make sense to go after Smith if Nash Leaves?

Getting Josh Smith without having Nash makes no sense because a.) It would put us in the same situation, 7-10 seed and b.) Smith has 1 year left on his contract.

No. No....no...no. NO!
Look, they tried trading him before the deadline, but there were no takers. They have been desperately trying to get rid of him. You dont offer our 1st round pick and Morris to get this type of player. He, like Crawford, is the definition of "Chucker".
What we need more importantly is a SF/PF that can score in the post and rebound the damn ball. Someone that can defend and play with an attitude. Thats what wins titles. Look at the Spurs. Look at the Celtics. Hell, look at the Lakers and OKC (who will win this year). You have to rebound the damn ball and play defense. No more of this happy-go-lucky lets all be friendly and nice Suns Basketball. Time to get some defenders and enforcers.
I also have heard that the Wolves (More importantly Coach Adelman) have their eyes set on acquiring Martin. He had success under Adelman, and Minnesota is very desperate for a scoring SG.
