until an official timetable was given espn and others reported indefinitely. with others thinking it would be the same timetable as his same injury last year.

sounds like someone's mad they couldn't pick him up. i already have two closers (3 if you count street who closes sparingly) so it's not a major loss if he doesn't close. if he wins the closing job i'll have 4 closers, if he doesn't the worst he'll be is a set up man who occasionally closes which is what i just gave up to get him. and the yankees will undoubtedly turn to him if robertson beings to struggle.

For the second year in a row, the San Francisco Giants manager will have to make do without his third baseman and most productive hitter for an extended stretch, as Pablo Sandoval will be sidelined for four to six weeks with a broken left hamate bone. He will have surgery today.

It's the same injury that knocked Sandoval out for 40 games last season, from April 30-June 12, except at that time it was to his right hand.

same prognosis as last year, wouldn't surprise me if he's out the full 6 weeks like last year just to make sure he's fully healthy.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Thursday that Soriano is a candidate for the closer role in light of the Mariano Rivera (knee) injury, Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News reports.

Recommendation: When asked who the new closer will be, Girardi said, "I'll sleep on it. We've got two guys who I feel are very capable in (David) Robertson and Soriano. If we took the lead (Robertson) was going to close to tonight. But I'll sit down with my coaches and we'll talk about it. I'll make that decision tomorrow."
