GM A Team Game

Post#1 » by Jersey Generals » Fri May 4, 2012 7:11 am

This gm a team game is going to be simple, not nearly as in-depth as what many of you have probably experienced before. You simply post an off-season plan for your respective team, incorporating the draft, the free agency period, and whatever trades you want to make. At the end of the game, each entry will be judged and a winner decided.

Draft: Use as many picks that your team has, trade up or down, do whatever you want, but whatever you do (whether you trade or your draft a player) it has to be reasonable.

Free Agency: Do not worry about another team signing the same player, that’s not the point of this. Do whatever you have to do to better your team, but again, the contract offered has to be reasonable. You can’t sign Deron Williams to a mid-level deal or anything like that.

Cap Space
Cap Space Exception
Mid-level Exception
Mini-mid-level Exception (for luxury tax payers)

Trades: Trade for players, future picks, whatever you want. But like the two above, the trades have to be reasonable. You can’t trade for an all-star that isn’t on the block for a conditional second round player, in other words.

Depth chart: Put the depth chart how you want it to be.

How the teams will be graded? There will be a few criteria used in deciding who the winner is: Whose plan is the most reasonable, who accumulated the best assets and who has the best future (whether it’s a championship next year or down the road), and who has the best overall team.

Once we get a few more participants, you can start posting your entries.

I'll get a few bums off of the street to do it.

You'll take the Knicks and you'll like it.

Utah Spirit it is.

Is there a selection of teams that we pick from or anyone can pick any team?

While you can pick any team you want, I think it would be fun if we all took a different team, but that's not a rule or anything like that.

So far we have:

Me- Trail Blazers
Vince- Jazz
Ronito- Hornets
Shameer- Nets
Jeff- Bobcats, but he was already fired.

Um, What do I do if half of my team are Free Agents? lol. Can I just sign them or sin and trade them or just not sign them at all? or does this start after the lottery/off-season?

Which team would be the biggest challenge? Bobcats would be the easy answer but they have young talent and a top pick.

You can sign them, sign and trade them, or not sign them at all, it's up to you. It's an off-season game, meaning you have the draft, free agency, and trade to get you your team for next season. The only stipulation is reasonableness: if you draft a player that most likely won't be at that spot, you'll get docked for it; if you sign a player to a contract that isn't reasonable, you'll get docked for it; and if you propose a trade that isn't reasonable to both teams, you'll get docked for it.

I personally think the Knicks, 76ers, and Suns will be the hardest; teams stuck in the middle.

I think it would be best if everyone was given random teams. It would be more fun that way.

okay, now with the draft lottery done and everyone knows their slots, you can start posting your ideas.

You will be voted on three factors: the likelihood of it, the originality of it, and the chances of success. By chances of success, if you're going for a rebuild, it'll be voted on how quickly a rebuild could be done by the assets you've accumulated for the team. If you're going for a championship team, you'll be voted on how long the window would be open and how close the team actually is to a championship.

I'll be posting my Trailblazers one in a few hours.

Bobcats:

Goal: Rebuild and improve as a team, though that shouldn't be hard. The playoffs are a long shot and I'm ultimately more interested in developing my young players than I am at winning games, though that doesn't mean I'm gonna tank, my team will compete every night.

Trades:

Corey Maggette(expiring) and future 1st for Ben Gordon.
Sign Goran Dragic to a 4 year 40 million deal.
Trade Tyrus Thomas for Richard Jefferson
Sign and Trade DJ Augustin to Chicago for a sign and traded Omer Asik
Trade down for Portlands 6th and 11th pick and Draft Andre Drummond and Kendall Marshall respectively.
Trade for Johan Petro 3 mil and a future first for a future 2nd round pick.

Andre Drummond/BJ Mullens/Desagana Diop
Bismack Miyombo/Johan Petro
Richard Jefferson/Reggie Williams
Gerald Henderson/Ben Gordon
Kendall Marshall/Kemba Walker
