Dream Hawks Off-Season...

Post#1 » by pja123 » Tue May 1, 2012 5:54 pm

This may be somewhat far-fetched, but not out of the realm of possibility. Let me know what you think...

Trade No.1 (between Atlanta & Orlando)
Hawks get:
Dwight Howard
Quentin Richardson

Magic get:
Al Horford
Marvin Williams
#23 pick in the draft

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE HAWKS:
Dwight and Smoove would make one of the best defensive frontcourts in the league. Plus, they're really good friends, which would increase the chances that Dwight re-signs long-term with the team.

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE MAGIC:
Horford is a very nice piece to rebuild around. Plus, he's signed to a reasonable long-term deal. They also get another 1st rounder in a deep draft.

Trade No.2 (between Atlanta & New Jersey)
Hawks get:
Deron Williams (sign and trade for max dollars)
Johan Petro

Nets get:
Jeff Teague
Joe Johnson

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE HAWKS:
Obvious - the new big 3 is created. Deron, Dwight, and J-Smoove would be unbelievably good together.

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE NETS:
This deal would probably only happen if Deron is adamant about playing with Dwight and tells Nets management to either work out a deal with the Hawks, or he bolts and signs outright with Dallas. If the Nets are faced with the real possibility of losing Deron for nothing, I think they'd become very amenable to dealing him for an all-star scorer in JJ and a young replacement PG in Teague.

FREE AGENCY:
Sign Ray Allen - 3 year deal using the mid-level exception
why?
He'd be the perfect 2G for this team.

Sign Nate Robinson - 1 year/league minimum
why?
Good spark plug off the bench.

Sign Matt Barnes - 1 year/league minimum
why?
Good, defensive-minded 3 to pair with Ray.

Sign Bill Walker - 1 year/league minimum
why?
Has good athleticism and could get a chance to actually show what he can do on this team.

Sign Jason Kapono - 1 year/league minimum
why?
More 3-point shooting depth on the perimeter.

NEW HAWKS ROSTER:
PG-Deron Williams/Nate Robinson
SG-Ray Allen/Quentin Richardson
SF-Matt Barnes/Bill Walker/Jason Kapono
PF-Josh Smith/Ivan Johnson
C-Dwight Howard/Zaza Pachulia/Johan Petro

I know, total fantasy.

At this point, I'd prefer to see what happens in the playoffs before I'd put together any grand plan. Sure, it'd be nice to secure a superstar like D12 and Deron regardless, but right now we have to be considered a dark horse title contender (up 1-0 on BOS; CHI without Rose; and then hopefully we'll get Horford back for a final run against MIA and the Western Finalist). I'd think our dream could change radically if we end up with an amazing run from here out...

I like the optimistic approach that our GM would do something newsworthy to improve this team other than returning the starters from last year.
So until Sund actually makes a move, you can't be too convinced that he can put together a blockbuster deal.

Our cap is really going to be challenged next year. We will fill our roster with min vets.

I'm watching the calls the Heat are getting ... and it's hard to imagine anyone else being allowed to win it.

Getting both Howard and Deron might be too much to hope for.

But I get the feeling Ama're Stoudemire will be on the block shortly.

HE's the consistent post scorer this team needs. He and JJ have played together in the past, also. It would take some creative salary cap manipulation and inventive trade proposals to make it happen, though.

We are so much closer than people realize....going into next season, we have the 3rd best roster in the East IMO behind Miami and Chicago. No disrespect to Boston who may very well knock us out of the playoffs, but with a healthy Horford returning after we only missed the 3 spot by 2 games, I feel like we are the 3rd best on paper. If the Hawks could just add that ONE missing piece to this roster, we would be right there. We're so close, but were missing one more piece and it's frustrating/encouraging all together.

How ignorant is this? This team will be shelling out 60 million to 6 guys next season. Teague will be in the last year of his deal looking for a pay increase, same as Josh, same as Zaza. Joe will be older and on a higher salary...This isn't 2009, that whole "one piece away" nonsense died a long time ago.

Did not know an opinion based on a sporting team could be deemed as ignorant. Sorry I am not up to par with your intelligence level, but before you post a reactionary post after a loss that occurred after my post, you should reread my post. We went 40-26 without a center all year, basically...the East has two top tier teams in Chicago in Miami, then after those two, the drop off is huge. Atlanta finished 2 games out of 3rd while fighting the injury bug and were very competitive vs the Bulls and Heat. We are not near their level obviously, but how is it "ignorant" to say Atlanta could be the 3rd best team in the East next year and is one piece away? It's not 2009 anymore, thanks for informing me of that breaking news, but we never have added that one piece. If you gave the Hawks a legit center or any big man of sorts inside, you are telling me I am foolish to believe they could contend in the East?

Besides, before this game, I saw a team that should have won game 2, and had a shot at game 3 without arguably their best player. We could have easily been up 3-1, and looking at a potential second round matchup against Philly, and though they gave us hell in the regular season, It'd be hard not to think about the ECF. Maybe I'm a homer, but I think the East is going to be really weak outside of the big 2, and even with Rose, the Hawks have given Chicago trouble, but Miami just seems to be on a different level than us.

What's reactionary about my post? Even if this team did make it to the Finals my post would still be true. I claimed your post was ignorant because you are spouting ideas and not saying exactly "How". How will the team improve with less players and being over the cap? How will the team improve with half of the remaining guys being on the end of their contracts? How will this magical bigman appear? Do you have a a few hundred million dollars and the ability to subvert the CBA? Mark Cuban sure as hell didn't and look where his team is, swept out of the playoffs. Do you intend for the team to win the lottery? Trade Marvin for Bynum? Where exactly is this piece coming from? I don't even need exact details, just a plausible scenario better than wishing upon a star.

Nope, all you got to hang onto is woulda coulda shouldas over the series and the inflated irregular season record. Well guess what, the team last year with a worse regular season record was actually closer to the ECF than this team seeing as they actually went 6 games into the 2nd round.

Josh, Al, and Joe can not play together. They do not like playing together and it is not a good mix. I don't see how Teague can do anything other than what Bibby used to do and keep them happy. Teague is not a shooter so playing off of them and ending up taking jumpshots is not good for him and that is what he will get. This is not a good mix. Lastly, the talk of Josh and Rondo talking weekly once again confirms what I can see in Josh's demeanor towards Teague. He sits around talking to Rondo thinking that the grass is so much greener and he would be so much better with Rondo or some elite PG. Josh is the bad apple that needs to go people. Sorry, but everything always leads back to that.

Dream offseason move Josh and attach Marvin to him.

Get a real coach and GM, ASG sale.

Return to Atlanta Hawks
