I highly doubt that's actually the case.

If Jonas turned into a more athletic version of Ilgaukas, we'd be in pretty damn great shape.
Ilgauskas comparisons makes no sense. Yong Z was faster and a better athlete, while robo-feet Z was so slow and his skill set was nothing like Jonas. Either way, it way off, there are better comparisons there. I think we both know why that comparison was made, and it has nothing to do with their game style.

Rytas lost, Jonas had 11 points on 5 shots, 4 rebounds in 27 minutes. Box score is not exactly reliable but thats his official final stat line.

Re: Jonas Valanciunas 11/12 Season Thread III
I was thinkin this based on the rumour that Spurs wanted to add Jonas to their roster:
The first thing is not all the players have the chance to play for the spurs, Greg Popovich is the one who evaluates who can play for them, based on demeanor and talent.. they look for serious pros and they have shown they are a serious organization (you wont see a Howard attitude in there)
The second thing is Spurs are very old, they are probably in their last resort to win a title.. this means they will have to rebuild as soon as possible.. They tried to trade Parker cause hes the only one in that team with more trade value..
Is it safe to say that Greg Popovich thought Big V couldve been a core piece of the new Spurs?
and otoh, would you have been happy if that trade had nailed down?

They've hit one three, Zalgris has hit 8. Rytas can't contain Zalgris at the perimeter at all. I don't think they've had to throw the ball into the post once.
Wasn't Weems their best player too?
No. Not with all of his chucking, choking, and turning the ball over at every key possession.

9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

Re: Jonas Valanciunas 11/12 Season Thread III
I'm completely fine with a 20-year-old big having off games or being shut down by certain teams/players...that should be expected.
I'm more scared of the fact that every time he has a bad game, everyone seems to blame the team and claim that he's being held back or something.
In my experience, the "Free Darko" or "Free Beasley" or "Free Collison" or "Free whomever" crowd are almost always completely wrong. If a player isn't performing, it's generally the fault of the player, not the team. Good players find ways to be good players no matter how crappy the team around them. The rest of the team defines how good the team will be, not how good the player is playing.
It really annoys me that we seem to have a bunch of Euro/Lith posters who constantly blame the team for JVal's poor play. He's the one that has to work through his problems - that's what good players do. If he's having certain problems now, he's going to have the exact same problems when he gets to the NBA - that has all to do with Jonas and very little to do with his teammates.

So you are saying its his fault that after scoring 11 pts at half on 4/4 shooting he gets 1 fg in second? Maybe its his fault for not punching teammates in to face for not giving ball?

Nah the guy thinks that center is a pg and he choses plays and to whom should the ball be passed.

To some extent you're right, but it goes both ways. I remember when he wasn't getting any PT in the EC's last year and complaining that he was much better than the Cs they were starting. It took an injury to get him in the rotation and he proved he was, in fact, better than he was given credit for by the coach.
At the beginning of this season he wasn't getting any touches at all and looked pretty terrible, and then Maurizio Gherardini showed up and suddenly they were feeding him in the post regularly and his playing time went up. The result is he proved to be one of the better players in the LT, VTB and Eurocup.
I'd say the bigger homers aren't the Lithuanian posters, but the crazy Rap fans who have barely watched him play but think he'll be a top 3 center in the league guaranteed. Or think he'll come into the league avg 9/9 or something that rarely happens.

Toronto has pieces, but it doesn't have that centerpiece around which you can build a real contender. Imagine a frontcourt of the 7-foot Bargnani, the 6-foot-11 Davis and 7-foot-2 center Jonas Valenciunas, whom the Raptors took in the first round last season and expect will come over to the NBA next season after spending the year playing in Europe. Imagine what Jose Calderon and DeRozan could do with Davis swatting shots and igniting the fast break.

by the time Jonas comes here he will be talked as 8foot center with Noahs defence and Pau skills..

Bigs are dependant on the teammates though as its not them who distribute the ball. If the said distributors are awful then the centers game crumbles. It should still be of no excuse for Jonas poor job on the boards but frankly that happen rarely and I have the impression that Jonas rebounds and defends better when he gets into the flow of the game by getting touches.
You could say he still got touches to score 11 but it isnt really right as most of those points were bail-out points rather than plays constructed for Jonas. He never got into the rhythm on offence because all those points seemed like giving birth on court. No fluidity from the teammates and jonas ended up struggling agaisnt two or sometimes even three oponents (in the second half it started to turn into turnovers).

Ironic but I also had the same thopught while watching the game. The intensity and the tam-basketball was really way better than when they had Lawson or Wemms with them.

while I agree with you on the most part, but I guess you haven't seen LRytas in action. Am I right?
