oh man, don't remind me, I get so heated when I read those discussions... I'm still PO'd we didn't get Ellis at the trade deadline... I'm not going to waste my energy anymore arguing to Ryan-lovers about why I would have traded Ryan for Ellis... I like Ryan too, but come on... we needed Ellis imo.
It didnt matter, they didn't want ryan for ellis anyway

If I remember correctly from the information gathered during the finals days of the trade deadline, we were actually about to get Ellis... but Dwight kept going back and forth with his decision to waive the ETO and opt-in his final year... Orlando was going to do a 3-team deal with GS & Mil... management was on the phone with Dwight telling him they will get him Ellis if he waives his ETO... Dwight got all frustrated and confused by it, and then Dwight's stupid agent, Dan Fegan, started giving him misinformation... so a frustrated Dwight then said he will NOT waive his ETO.
The very next day, GS started becoming impatient (and GS's FO also stupidly believed they had a shot at Dwight later this summer) and moved along with the deal, cutting us out of it... literally hours after GS cut us out of the deal, Dwight had that late night phone call w/ Rich DeVos and the talk later on with Jarrod Rudolph (w/ Jarrod publishing his Dwight "interview" for RealGM that very same late night), and Dwight goes into "awww schucks you guys, I'm sorry for being a jerk, I'll stay for another year, here let me opt-in, I love you guys" mode. DOH!!!!
So it was too little, too late by that point.
@ The whole situation:

But yeah, we had a chance at acquiring Ellis, and we missed that window of opportunity.
