I imagine this is what they'll be trying to sell him if they can't trade for Iggy. Firing Otis/SVG, depending on who Dwight wants out, would also go a long way in proving they're serious about making changes.

Just tough to compete with a team up north making him all these promises in a big market with an elite point guard.

3 things:

1.) The Nets aren't that great of a team right now. That roster blows. And who knows if D-Will stays (I think he does tho). D-Will's decision will be key to a lot of this. If he bolts for Dallas, awesome for us.

2.) Even if he stays in Brooklyn, we have Dwight under contract. The Nets will have tough decisions to make with Brook Lopez and Gerald Wallace. They could kill their leverage by squandering their $. We don't have to trade Dwight to the Nets. If Dwight were to play out the 2012-13 season in ORL, we'd be on equal, if not better, footing with the Nets to sign Dwight and pair him with a great cast in 2013. Plus Brooke is a RFA now. He gets a say in where he plays. That's their biggest trade chip. If a team offers big $ to Brook (Centers are scarce so someone will) then the Nets could lose him or have to pay him big $ to keep him.

3.) The 2013 scenario. If Dwight likes that idea, he'll extend. Once he extends, Monta, Iggy, Smith will come flocking to ORL to compete for a ring. Again, the Nets don't have the leverage that they used to. We have the ability to surround Dwight with more talent upon the end of his contract.

I think if Dwight is concerned about winning, in terms of how long his current contract goes for, he's in a better position here in ORL. But if he's sold on the big market and playing with D-Will now, then we got no shot. I just think of what we can be with Dwight and I'd be disappointed to never see that.

BHSN video: Evaluation process begins for Magic, including Dwight Howard, Stan Van Gundy and GM Otis Smith: http://bit.ly/JY2Eid

"If he decides not to sign an extension, then we're going to make decisions necessary so we don't go through a season like we went through this year," Martins said.

Basically, sign the extension or get dealt. I think it's a stupid strategy. Basically giving him an ultimatum to stick here with this scrub team or play in Brooklyn with D-Will. Seems like a no-brainer to me. I just don't see how we get Dwight help.

What Charles, Kenny, and Shaq are saying about coaches is so true... Stan (they didn't say his name) is not the kind of guy to sit someone that's getting "paid"... to sit someone like Duhon, Hedo, J-Rich, etc. ... Stan doesn't have the "guts" and respect to sit down those "paid" veteran guys when they are playing terribly.

Doc Rivers does it, Thibs does it, Phil does it, Pops does it... Stan doesn't

That really hit home to me... when the Inside the NBA website is updated with the video, I'll post it.

But man, that's so true.

How amazing would it be if one day monta ellis actually ends up on this team. . .its been talked about for like 3 years now, hell we already have all of those photoshopped pictures of him in a magic uni and everything. and Dwight and smoov are buddies and everything. . .forget next year, can't 2013 get here yet???

I wonder where the cap will be for '13-'14. I'd guess northwards of its current $58M. Right now we have Hedo, Davis, JRich, Duhon, QRich, and Harper under contract for '13-'14. If we cut Hedo and Duhon and re-sign Howard at the max, say $21M/yr or something, with $500k holds everywhere else we'd have a payroll of $47.472 million. Even if we bring in a fringe star like Ellis or Iggy or Smith or who have you @ 13M/yr we aren't a clear contender imo. Not to mention that projected cap space will be altered based on how we handle Nelson, Redick, Anderson, Clark, Liggins, Orton, and our two draft picks coming up. This offseason our team is going to skirt a razors edge between building a contender and setting the course for a rebuilding project.

Hope you guys are listening to Inside the NBA right now... I agree with pretty much everything they are saying regarding Dwight, SVG, and Otis.

Charles Barkley agrees with the ultimatum. Says if I'm the Magic, I go to Dwight and ask sign the extension or we trade you, no hard feelings. We aren't going thru the crap at the trade deadline again.

Official offseason thread

Post#256 » by NEM » Wed May 9, 2012 6:16 am

Now that this lock out shortened season is over, we can look to the offseason to improve this roster, from top to bottom. I want to know everyone's thoughts on what will happen with everyone, so here are mine:

Otis gets fired
Stan gets fired
Howard gets traded draft night
Nelson leaves via FA
Turkoglu gets traded with Howard
Anderson re signs
Jason Richardson gets traded
Redick stays
Davis stays
Duhon gets traded with Howard
Clark stays
Harper stays
Q stays
Liggins stays
Orton leaves via FA
Ish leaves via FA
Wafer stays

No pg
Redick/wafer/liggins
Q
Anderson/Clark/Harper
Davis

No coach
No gm

19th pick in the draft

A lot of work to be done, for whoever takes over

See VGOSWAMI's post on the previous page (last post).

Also later today (the show will probably be up on the site by 6am EST) go to -> http://www.nba.com/insidethenba/ ... click the Latest Show tab... watch the whole show...or click on the segments I was talking about (it's easy, they are "titled").
