so how are we going to pay ryan $9mil a year, sign steve nash, find a legit 2nd option that can create his own shot, find a defensive minded slasher, and pay dwight a long term contract? thats when ryan becomes expendable, if you want a better shot at finding that other star then you look past next season and prepare for 2013, but at the same time you give up on a young talented big that can play...tough decisions, hopefully we can resign ryan to a decent contract and trade off, jrich, hedo, duhon or bbd contract

+1 let Ryan walk, waive turk, jj and duhon. Who are all unguaranteed. If jameer declines his option let him walk....quick someone tell what that gives us? 20 million? Am i reaching here?

If all that happens we'd be at $49.038 million, with probably around $11M/yr to spend on a FA.

lol they just completely cut out the Otis interview from the live broadcast... when they finally came back to the show after 20 minutes of advertising, they thanked Otis for joining them and are now talking about other stuff...

I was listening through the web stream... i wonder if the same happened on regular radio?

Around the trade deadline when the Magic were trying to add a 2nd stars, Martins and the DeVos family found out that the contracts were as bad as advertised and were virtually unmoveable. So a lack of trust in Otis's team hit an truck with Martins, but the one guy they trusted was Foyle. Foyle is pretty respected by all the Magic higher ups, but he never asked to be GM. Around the deadline, while Otis and Martins were dealing with the Dwight situation, our higher ups dumped the trade deadline stuff on Foyle, giving him more than he asked for. Later, he was asked if he wanted to be GM. And here we are.

Kyler also says that the OMagic GM is a very coveted position around the league. With our new building, an owner willing to spend, and the potential to have the world's best center, it's a job that he says many execs would love to have. But he says he doesn't think Foyle is a good choice. Smart guy, but the last time the Magic picked up a GM without any GM experience was Otis Smith and we see how that worked out.

Potential GMs Magic should go after: David Norway (Pacers), Kevin Pritchard, Sam Henky (Houston) David Griffin (Cavs), Larry Harris (Bucks), Tony Ronzoni (DET)

Very interesting! Please, ANYONE respected and known in the NBA. They say Foyle was given deadline stuff... Uhh what did we do at the deadline again? Lmao riiight.

The only one on this list I would consider is Pritchard. Harris is actually supposed to be as bad as Otis.

Not gonna happen over night. I'll take a stab though. I feel Jameer will opt out just because he knows this is last big contract and he can't afford to wait a year later to get it. I feel someone will overpay him and the Magic will not match. Most likely they let JJ go and find a taker for JRich to free up the 2 spot. Remember we do have Liggins who is a slasher/defensive presence. Hopefully get Nash for cheap (under $10m like 3 years $6-9m) find a SF 2009 Hedo clone for cheap and call it a day...

Jameer is not a restricted free agent, so, we cannot match his contract if he chooses to go elsewhere. Also, I don't think we need a Hedo clone. We just need someone who can slash, score, and defend.

You also can't waive Turk or Duhon, as their contracts are fully guaranteed next year. A tiny bit of research before posting, por favor.

The key pursuit of our front office should be finding a way to offload Hedo, JRich, and BBD for expiring deals. JRich and BBD are easily moved IMO, Hedo though, that is much harder and would require a much more complicated deal. But if you pull it off you have max cap space in '13-'14, even with a re-signed Anderson.

Since he mentioned waiving them and since he's a smart dude he probably knows this and is talking about the only FA period that is really relevant for us, '13-'14.

I'd rather just trade Hedo, J-Rich, and Duhon. keep BBD around, he's been really good in the playoffs and the end of the regular season. And, if we re-sign Anderson, we'd have good depth at the 4.

Adonal Foyle ‏ @afoyle3131
Let me be abundantly clear I have never been interviewed for a GM job with the Orlando Magic.

Further Otis is my friend and mentor and I would never disrespect him in this manner. As Dir. of Player Dev - I have lots of work to do yet.
