The #2 pick is not a "lottery pick." Do you have a trade that would net us the #2 pick and free up cap space? No? That's because no team that has a pick that high would trade for an established, prime player like Josh Smith.
Still waiting on that list of 19 and 10 guys who play stellar defense and are great passers.

Josh would do better, the Hawks just won't..

Blake Griffin is a better rebounder than Josh Smith.
That is the end of the list. Josh is a better jumpshooter(not saying much) better passer, better scorer on the block, better team defender, and a better man defender.

<sigh> You guys have convinced me. Josh smith is not only the best PF in the game, he's the greatest player to ever don a Hawks uniform. Or ever pick up a basketball for that matter.
His career avg of 15 ppg and 8 rpg will never be matched and he will lead us undoubtedly to multiple titles in the near future.
The past eight years of mediocrity have been a mirage. As is his career FG% of 46%. There is absolutely no player or combination of players in the entire league who could ever match those numbers.
Please forgive my doubts, I'll find the J-Smoove bandwagon and lie down in front of it as penance for not believing in the power of Josh Smith.

Stop moving the goalposts. You stated that 18 and 9 big men are easily replaceable, when there are like maybe 9 or 10 of them in the league, and 2/3rd of them suck at defense.

Josh is the last one we should trade. we should first try and move Marvin Williams for a center. If we can't do that Move Horford. Marvin Williams and 2013 first or 2012 2nd for Al Jefferson. Then try and get Nash. but we must keep Smith.

No. Really. You convinvced me of the error of my ways.
Viva Josh Smith.
And...I'm pretty sure I've got a few years on you.

WOW dude, why would Utah ever do that deal? Marvin Williams is arguably the biggest bust at the #2 pick in the past 10 years! He looks like he should've been a second round pick!
So you want to get Al Jefferson, a top rebounder/post scorer (probably a top 5 PF/C) for a bust #2 pick in Marvin Williams who literally has the contribution equivalent of Gerald Green this season and a late 1st round/2nd round pick?
If you wanted Al Jefferson it would cost you J-Smoove and a 2nd rounder. I'd imagine Utah would consider a deal like:
Al Jefferson & CJ Miles for Josh Smith and Marvin Williams... even that I don't know about.
But comm'on man, Marvin Williams has zero-trade value, he's pretty much a salary filler at this point. Mcgrady should be starting over him- way more versatile, and smarter with the ball/less turnover prone

I can only say the same things so many times.
-He makes bad decisions at inopportune times.
-He takes horrible shots at the worst times.
-At 225 pounds, he's too little to guard the bigger, stronger PFs in the league.
-His intangibles just aren't there.
-In eight years the best he's ever given us is 19ppg and 9 rpg.
If this is his best...after 8 years, I think we need to look elsewhere.
It breaks my heart to watch him play. It really does. It makes sense, seeing as he just had his best statistical season, and seeing as we still couldn't compete with the best teams in the league, that we trade him while his stock is high.
That guy wants me to list other players, but it's not about other players. It's about Josh Smith on this team. We just aren't very good. He makes us an average team. I want to actually be a relevant team that contends. I do not believe he does or can make us a contender.

First of all, Josh Smith >>> Blake Griffin.
Second of all - to blame Josh Smith for the Hawks' playoff woes is a bit strange. Sure, he's shooting a low percentage, but Joe Johnson is shooting an even lower percentage. Smith is grabbing 15 rpg for the Hawks in this series. Not too sure why some of you place all the blame on Josh.

Re: Josh Smith's Value is Dropping
Surely you have some fans on your board who want to shoot the team in the foot.
Seriously, we have some structural problems on our team and Josh Smith is our 2nd-best trade asset. If Al Horford is going to be our PF, we need a Center. That's the main reason folks talk about trading him.
Of course, if we could draft a good Center (or even a decent one), most of us would be happy with no trade.

Re: Josh Smith's Value is Dropping
Just saw a sequence in the 2nd Qtr that epitomizes why I hate having Josh on our team.
He get's the ball on the left wing. His defender directly in fron of him.
Rondo leaves his man to cheat back to Smith across the middle of the court.
Josh dribbles and drives directly into the double team where Rondo is.
Gets blocked. Celtics grab the ball and push it upcourt.
Smoove doesn't run back down the court afterwards. Too busy complaining to the ref (despite the fact it was a clean block by a 6 foot PG.)
Celtics have a 5 on 4 situation, the pass goes to KG who's unguarded. Garnett lays it up for an easy basket to take the lead in the game.
It was a poor decision to drive into the double team, but hey, it happens. It's the fact that he doesn't even bother to run back on defense that REALLY bothers me.
That lack of focus and discipline and poise.
He does it all the time.

Re: Josh Smith's Value is Dropping
Josh Smith is one of the few reasons why we're in this game right now.
Yes, Josh Smith has his faults. So do most players in the league. What do you mean "it's not about the other players?" YES IT F***ING IS, YOU ONLY PLAY 5 PLAYERS AT ONCE. If he's so easily replaced, then find a suitable replacement for the team. It shouldn't be hard, right?

First play of the 2nd Half.
KG shoots an open 18 footer.
He's unguarded. On the first play....
Who's man is he...Josh Smith's. <sigh>

I'm dying to see you run the same play-by-play analysis for Joe Johnson or Al Horford, both of whom are sucking this game, especially Horford.

Maybe the play-by-play for Teague, as it seems Rondo is eating him alive.
KG and Rajon seem to be doing most of the damage through three quarters.

im not looking to trade Josh or Horford unless they get a guy like Dwight. any trade other than that is pointless.
in today's game, Josh's and Horford's ability to block and run, really shows that the Hawks have something special

I'm not disputing what you're saying. But we've had the two of them together for 5 years and not much has come of it.
Other teams get more consistent effort from lesser players who just play harder.
Bulls - Noah, Asik, Gibson
Nuggets - Javale McGee, Faried
Indiana - Hibbert, West
I would trade Josh Smith for a player like Faried any day of the week.

nah, i wouldn't. the Hawks are not missing small pieces like Faried, or Gibson, or West, etc, to become a championship team. really the Hawks need a top ten player to replace one of the big three.
because the elite teams have top ten players, Kobe, Lebron, Durant, Parker, Duncan, CP3, etc, and all those guys can close out games.
Hawks are basically the Pacers with injury problems, and nobody is saying the Pacers should trade anybody.
any move would just be lateral and would just be a trade for the sake of a trade.
