NBA Players Poll: Best Pure Shooter

Post#1 » by Yes We Kahn » Thu May 10, 2012 7:53 pm

I don't know if I've ever started a thread, but I didn't know where else to put this. Look who shows up at number 12... thoughts? I couldn't contain my amusement.

"Sports Illustrated asked 146 NBA players who they think is the league's best pure shooter. Here are the results:"

#1. Ray Allen
#2. Dirk Nowitzki
#3. Kyle Korver
#4. Anthony Morrow
#5. Steve Nash
#6. Stephen Curry
#7. James Jones
#8. Jason Kapono
#9. Steve Novak
#10. Ryan Anderson
#11. J.J. Redick
#12. Wesley Johnson
#13. Kevin Durant
#14. Joe Johnson
#15. Derrick Rose

I have no doubt that Wes Johnson is a good shooter. He just never delivers on the court because he can't handle the pressure of being an nba player. :-?

I'm pretty sure they voted for him as a joke.

Just to add in some things....he does have a pretty looking stroke, but his rotation is pretty bad. Even though he sucks, he did shoot over 40% after the all-star break from 3.

Maybe they meant to write Kevin Love (kind of like the one guy put Bogut for MIP instead of Bynum)

I can understand the Bynum and Bogut thing.

Andrew Bynum
Andrew Bogut

Similar names, sort of.

Not sure Wes is in the top 12 pure shooters on the Wolves roster.

I still want Wesley in the team for the next season. In NBA2K11 had all star potential.

nah seriously, I really like him and Beasley´s potentials (Williams´ also, but not that much). Unfortunately we have too much potential in this team. We need a real players for next year.

Awesome

I don't know how they could possibly put him in the top 12 in the entire league for pure shooters. I mean, he CAN shoot, but he sure didn't show it last season to be placed this high on a list, especially right ahead of Kevin Durant haha.

I guess its possible that 120 of the votes went to the top 5 or 6, then the rest of the voters just homer voted and maybe only 2 or 3 people actually voted for Wes

Hopefully he can improve his game after a full offseason with the coaching staff. At this point, I'd really just be content if Johnson could develop into a reliable spot up shooter.

I think this is the biggest key that so many people are forgetting.

Wes really hasn't had a full offseason to work with coaches. After being drafted, he suffered an injury one game into summer league that kept him out for the majority of the remaining offseason. Then last offseason, had no contact with coaches due to the lockout. Look at the progression Wes made during the season from 3-pt range.

January: 0.190
February: 0.212
March: 0.383
April: 0.441

Clearly whatever the coaches were doing during the season was working, as evidenced by his improved shooting percentages every month. If he can improve his overall game this offseason, Johnson could still be a valuable rotation piece.

Or continue to be a giant disappointment.
