Clearly the guy's head is not in it. He is not even under contract past next year.
If you don't think the allure of playing in Brooklyn is still in Dwight's head, you are just in plain denial.
I have come to accept the fact that Dwight will most likely be leaving us. The relationship is irreparable.
I would love for him to stay. But if he doesn't sign the extension this summer, see ya buddy. Can't risk the future of my franchise upon the shoulders of an indecisive guy who is not willing to say what he is actually thinking.
I don't think he's staying either, based on the comments of Alex and the ultimatum he gave him. However, I don't think there is much difference between letting Dwight walk and acquiring Brook Lopez and Marshon Brooks, with no draft pick. There is no future in that.
It's extremely hard to find horses that can carry you deep in the playoffs, and it may be a long time before we do again. I think that could possibly be more detrimental to the future of our franchise than anything. I think the statement "do what's best for the future of the franchise" is a cop out statement. If they really wanted to do what was best, they'd do whatever it takes to give them the best chance of winning a championship, and that involves keeping Dwight. Trade Dwight to the Nets and we'll see empty seats for a long time and won't sniff the playoffs for years. I know some teams are able to come back from the rebuild, but it takes the right personnel to do so. For ever team that emerges from the rebuild (Chicago, Miami, OKC, or Pacers) there are several more teams forever stuck in the abyss (Milwaukee, Golden State, Sacramento, Washington, Toronto...). That's a dark place to be unless you have a good foundation for the future, and Lopez and Brooks are not that. I think while we have a guy like Dwight, for as long as that's the case, we should try build around him. But I have little faith in management or ownership to make any relevant changes.
