I wouldn't go quite THAT far. We could probably swap him straight up for salary relief + low-mid tier prospect.

Let's hope that every single 1B and DH from every contender and pseudo contender gets hurt and an intense bidding war for Lind ensues.

Realistically, what's going to happen (if Vladi is successful in the minors) is;

RHP

1B - Lind
DH - Encarnacion

LHP

1B- Encarnacion
DH- Guerrero

Getting rid of Lind for basically anything that doesn't poison our budget with a horrible long-term contract would be good; the specifics aren't super-important, though there isn't much incentive to rush a transaction just to get him out of town.

I dislike Lind's presence on the roster, but AA is a pretty solid GM, so we'll see how things go.

It's just frustrating that one season in over a half-decade have anchored him to our team. Bleh. And worse, it's really hard to look back and go "well, you shouldn't have" to that contract because we'd been clamoring for power for ages and then found it. The Jays would have been crucified for not retaining Lind. Thing is, though, isn't his contract nothing but options after next season? We talk about the size and length of his deal, but I could swear 2014 and onward are all team options with reasonably cheap buy-outs.

So we'd effectively be parlaying a contract that's $5M next year and that's it, which is far less horrific than we've been implying through this conversation.

EDIT: Didn't realize his baBIP was .323 in 2009. Heh. Only year he was ever positive-WAA, basically the only year he was ever positive WAR, only year he was at or above league-average OBP, one of two years (08 the other) he was at or above league-average OPS... So many indicators that he was going to regress. Striking out at a much higher rate these past 2+ seasons, atypical gap power that year, magical outlier HR/AB.

Ugh. Why do I look at your history, Lind? You make me SMH every time. Bleh.

One more year at 5M then a 2M buyout so 7M in total a team would take him, I don't think we would get a whole lot for him but he does have value to some teams, MIL might be willing to take a shot at him as might the Marlins or some other national league team. The contract isnt all that bad even with his high BABIP in his big year that was actually in line with his xBABIP and the power he showed was in line with that scouts predicted he would display at the major league level. For one reason or another Adam Lind has shown no ability to adjust to what pitchers are now doing to him to get him out, he is a classic example of a player that will succeed right up to the majors, and even in the majors for a short time but has no ability what so ever to re-adjust once the league has developed an improved approach. Switching leagues is probably the best thing for him, he will have some time where the pitchers are unfamiliar with him and he can hopefully do some damage before they figure him out again.

Straight up probably nothing we could use immediatly, Being left handed and a once beutiful swing someone might take a flyer at him for some low level prospects. It would we be best to try put him in a package with some of our prospects to get any thing of value.

Why should the Dodgers give up a prospect? Loney is garbage, Lind is garbage.

Worse than that, if I'm reading it correctly from Cot's...his team would have to buy out all of his options, which means that he has the prorated portion of this year's salary, plus next year's $5m, plus a buyout of his options of $3.5m. Thus, if we traded him today, the minimum compensation due would total $12.39m...$3.89m this year, $5m next, and $3.5m in buyouts. For 1.75 seasons. After this year, it becomes $8.5m for one year. Unfortunately, even the most speculative of teams is not likely to put down that coin for a guy playing that poorly.

Don't forget the Aaron Hill situation. We flipped him for another 2B who might have benefited from a change in scenery. He did well outside of Rogers center so maybe teams could use that as a measure.

I think if we sent Lind with 5M cash we could cash in on a prospect or potentially a David Cooper 2.0?
