Go for yours amare. You better be ready for next season. You better come with that aggression and passion. Play like one of the top players at your position again. Or you are really going to be depressed when the boos are on you.

While Carmelo took all the heat this season, amare flew under the radar with one of his worst seasons as a pro. Not only were his numbers down. Not only did he miss the all star team. He played like a guy with nothing to gain.

Meanwhile, Carmelo is publicly disagreeing with the type of shape his coach thinks he's in but says he dont disagree.

Lin is out getting hammered with landry. While they appeal the CBA to get him paid.

Smith is on twitter. His father is his spokes person. Telling the world he is broke.

Woodson is changing agents.

And im stuck making excuses as to why my team was tossed early again.

Am I wrong for wishing we had the type of players that were committed to winning year round? The type of players that crawl under a rock and disappear for weeks after being eliminated from the playoffs? Like those guys who play in the city amare goes to school in?

Or like the defensive player of the year. You know a winner who hates losing. Whats his name? Tyson Chandler. Oh. Wait............. never mind.

Solid post, as always.

Going back to school in your late-20s can be a great experience, especially for someone who's shown intellectual curiosity but whose BBIQ hasn't always been the best. I wonder if this isn't partly motivated by how dumb that fire extinguisher made him look.

Whatever it is, taking classes and working out all summer seems like a good plan. If he can stick with it and actually graduate in the next several years, maybe we'll see an improvement in his on-court smarts as well. Or maybe that's just wishful thinking. Either way, I'd rather see him do this than focus on being a fashion celebrity or whatever.

Nah, not at all..but I can't throw salt on him taking on a challenge like this. I'm glad to see it, he has however, brought the onus of finishing on himself or else, it'll be something else that makes him look foolish.

Back to Amar'e - It's hard to get down on a guy for wanting to continue his education. He certainly doesn't need to with the kinds of money he is getting paid. I definitely think it shows an intellectual curiosity and a depth to his character.
Play time is over.

Well at least it's good to see that he's dedicated to making himself a better basketball player after his phenomenal season this year.

Amar'e is a young man. His only priority right now should be the perfect off-season regimen with an emphasis on conditioning, nutrition, rehab, massage and twice a day coaching sessions on how to play the game of basketball.

Go ahead and applaud his quest for knowledge, but he is getting paid $55,000 a day for the next three years and I believe his love of history and underwater basket weaving can wait until he has fulfilled his obligations to the Knicks responsibly.

I read this differently than most of you. I think it is selfish, because my take on him is this will suck up his time and available brain cells instead of using his off-season to improve and come back with a sense of mission. To me it smells of "I got paid and I'll do what makes me happy." Sorry, I don't believe Stat is genuinely interested in his career anymore. He has next season to prove me wrong, but I don't believe in him at this point.

You'll apologize for anything. The guy is getting paid $55,000 a day 365 days a year! I don't give a flying crap about his love of higher education. Stop kidding yourself. If he doesn't have the molecules and bandwidth to learn basketball to date, he is not going to have it by filling up his schedule with other topics. It is delusional to think Amare is able to do more than learn how to re-tool his basketball game, but go ahead and give him the little granny pat on the head and say good boy learning is good for you. What a load of crap. He is getting paid one annual salary EVERY SINGLE DAY and his only focus should be on that. I'm sick of coddling these thieves.

What a weird comeback pharmcat. So, basically you're saying, yeah he's a loser in the basketball educational department, so what does it matter if he goes and learns something else? Oooookayyyyyy kimosave

Good for him. Maybe he was motivated by Shaquille O'Neal getting his doctorate in education. And maybe he'll get to stay in his homestate, if the Knicks can pull of a Stoudemire/Howard swap.
It's hard being a Knicks fan...

No. Not to me. He's a vastly overpaid mook at this point. He doesn't need extended trips in Jerusalem and a curriculum load at U. of Miami, he needs to re-dedicate himself to being a ballplayer capable of earning $55,000 a day. What I find ridiculous is how easy you are on this guy and pretend he has the focus to do several things at once when he clearly doesn't. I'm surprised everyone is patting him on the back for being a curious human being as if that is some kind of badge of honor. Its a trivialization of the lack of commitment he has to his craft and you want to call it ridiculous.

This guy is really the cancer on our team. If he continues playing like he has, we won't even be close to title contention. It's funny how there is so much hoopla over Lin/Nash or adding a shooting guard this summer when this all won't matter much. We have a $20m black hole on our team. Imagine how good we'd be if he actually played like a max player? Instead we've resorted to hoping that Lin/Nash be great for our team and that we can save the MLE to sign new players.

Have a lot of fun in Miami Amar'e. Hopefully you'll be on a new team next season.
