Vesely was hurt by starting so slowly, and playing for the second worst team in the league. If he played for the Knicks he would have been top 5-10.
Making extreme statements like "only" sounds like there are "no" Jokics in this draft? Jokic is an engine that was drafted in the 2nd round. Always a chance to see diamond dropped by sloppy burgular after a theft.

I'm a bit surprised. My system rates Walker and Knight the same. Walker can't shoot, Knight's A/TO ratio is terrible, and the rest of their stats are mediocre.

They were both horribly inefficient offensively. Pace adjusted, Walker had more rebounds, assists, steals and blocks than Knight; as well as fewer turnovers and fouls.

He struggled to get time on the floor, and didn’t take full advantage of his chances until the final month, when Trevor Booker was out with an injury and he started all 15 games, averaging 8.5 points on 55.1 percent shooting and seven rebounds. The performance gave the Wizards some reassurance in selecting him sixth overall and allowed him to return home to the Czech Republic encouraged about next season.

I'm a Ves fan. I like this kid. Can't what to see what he adds to his game this offseason. Summer league will be here before we know it.

New Coach & Vessely?

Lets say we draft Beal. We now have Wall-Beal and then Nene-KS up front. We will probably find some way to get rid of Dray & Shard. Now we will probably make some moves but I still think that Book and even "James" Singelton can be very good frontcourt backups.

So lets get to the point. My question is that its obvious that Witt doesnt think JV can be a 3 or like him there but there are alot of people around the leauge who saw him overseas that they he is truly still a 3. Meaning, if we did make a coaching change, could you see JV being our starting 3 next year?

I think he is in a weird spot right now. He's actually probably waiting on some verification from Ernie. If we are going to keep him up front then he will probably try to bulk up but if we think we need a 3 then I could see him staying the same size and trying to work non stop on quickness & 3pt shooting.

Both Ted & EG said this is step 2 in a 3 part rebuild. I kinda take that as them maybe not wanting to spend alot on FA's and honestly I dont wanna break the bank on a guy like Gordon. Batum fits well but I also dont wanna overpay him which I think will have to happen. If thats the case then I may rather take our lottery pick and try to fit him in at the 3 since we have 4 other good guys who can play up front.

It is also possible that if Witt stays as the coach & with an offseason of JV working on his game that he would be more open to letting him play the 3 but I think only a new coach would probably do that. Some will probably argue that Beal is a good start but we will need another shooter in the lineup at the 3 also to be as good as we wanna be

Singleton had some difficulty at the 3 this year guarding quicker guys. I don't think Ves is quick enough to defend the elite 3s. Don't care who he defended in Europe, they weren't as athletic as LeBron, Durant, Granger, Rudy Gay, Iggy, Wallace, etc.

Still no, Vesely did nothing this past year to suggest that he should be sliding back down the skill/size positional scale. In baseball the value of a player's defense is judged relatively based upon where he plays, an average defensive shortstop is a more valuable defensive player than an average defensive left fielder, both because short stops have a larger impact defensively and because people capable of playing a decent defensive shortstop are in shorter supply. Therefore less productive hitting is tolerated in a shortstop because he's compensating with defense to a greater extent.

The same is sort of true in basketball. Generally speaking defense is of greater importance in big men, who have a much larger defensive impact on the game than do smaller players. And, similarly, less offensive skill is more excusable in a big man if he is a strong defensive player. That's Ves, his defense and potentially rebounding (if we're bullish on improvements he made in that area last year) are his strengths and he is not a good offensive player. Why put him at a position which would minimize his strengths and accentuate his limitations? Should the team end up hiring a new coach I'd hope he or she would quickly recognize Vesely is not an NBA small forward.

Not winning the lotto puts more pressure on Vesely developing into a legit NBA player. Towards the end of the year I saw a guy who played smart tough defense, was active, made good decisions, and was savvy enough on offense to get 8.5ppg over his las 15 of the season. That's not great, but if he can have a Seraphin like improvement next season it'd be incredible for this team going forward. The two things he needs to work on are strength and shooting. If he improves those two areas over the next two seasons would he really be that different than Joakim Noah? As long as he's paired next to Seraphin or Nene with capable wing scorers he'd be extremely valuable.

Ves is playing PF and Center. He isn't getting moved to SF. Who starts isn't that big a deal at this point. Play 10 deep. They have lots of options in the front court if they bring everyone back, they were already a good team to end the year. Wall will shoot better from outside. He will start the year much better then last year. He learned how to be an NBA PG this last year. He won't regress. They will add more talent this year from the draft. They need more help at back up PG. Mason wants to return. They either do that or replace him with something similar. They will come to camp much more on the same page then any team in recent memory.

They will be fine next year. They don't need do any major moves right not but if the right one comes along they should consider it. At a min they just add Beal and maybe a back up PG and let it roll. This was the plan I thought they should do from the start. Now it is look like they can actually do it.

No hurry to move Dray. Just get Lewis off the books for now. Take some of the pain now and keep building. The opportunity to move Dray will present itself. They just need to be patient. Moving Dray will be a walk in the park compared to moving Gil and they did that. They will be able to move Dray as well.

As for Ves, I am so not worried. All those intangle comments people have been making about MKG. They are also true of Ves. He does all of that stuff. He will return a better player for year two. The kid already is an NBA player. He will only get better.

well that is in some ways part of my point & problem. If that was the case then I will still be fine but I think both of them deserve to play and its going to be hard to do if you are using both of them in the frontcourt. It still made me so mad last year that Singelton started all those games at the 3. I dont care if JV is too slow even for Center, Id put him at the 3 any day over Singelton. Now I know Singleton wont(or better not be starting there this year) but I still wanna see both JV & Book play so if we get Beal then I think one of them should start at the 3 or trade them for a 3

Personally I think Ves showed he has a better chance to become a decent Center than SF. I like how he's begun to thicken an can see him as a positive mismatch there if he continues to build strength. With Nene surprising midrange game and KSera's improving proficiency here we can afford to stick Ves out as a PF/C and let the match-ups determine position. I like his P&R defense and positional footwork taking charges etc down low, even if he has wooden hands in rebounding. Rebounding wise he'll make the tap-out volleyball pass though so with heads-up teammates even this stat may improve.

No. It's not a problem. There are 96 total minutes at the PF and C positions. Nene and Seraphin each play about 27-33 minutes. Vesely plays about 20-25 and Booker plays 10-15. Booker also steals a few minutes at SF to get his minute total up around 20. With the occasional injury, all players should average in the higher range of what I just said.

Agreed. I'm not really praising Booker. I'm just pointing out that there is no need to even discuss Vesely moving to SF. If any of our "bigs" move to SF, it'll be Booker. And hopefully, he won't have to play there very much.

I do remember the game against the Knicks where Carmelo was abusing everyone the Wiz put on him, and eventually they sent Booker out there. Think it would be a situational thing like that, where he plays 20 min at SF one night because of the matchup, then doesn't see any time at SF for the next two weeks, etc.

I completely agree. Either one (Book/JV) might be able to play spot min at SF
given a specific defensive matchup. Neither really has much in the way of
offensive skills for the 3 and therefore neither should be considered a 3.

I totallyy disagree with you. Those minutes suck. I think if you reach the level of supreme quality then you want atleast 34-38mpg. Definitely nothing lower. I think Nene & KS will want 34. That leaves 14 each and I dont think Book & Ves want 14 each. One guy would want the whole 28. I like 3 man rotations honestly. Also, you arent factoring in James Singelton who I really like & trust.

Ive never ever said that JV & Book were the answers at the 3 but they are 10x better than Singelton and they are quality players. I beleive in finding minutes for your qulality guys, even if slightly out of position. Ill take those 2 out of position way more than a scrub who is in his natural position. If we dont get Beal then I want MGK so trust me when I say that I wouldnt be upset at all if he was our starting 3 next year but if we get Beal then I may rather play those guys then spend a ton on someone undeserving or going with Singleton again.

This is all without even including my caveat in Dray who I still think will be a beast next year if he stays. If they dont trade him before he gets to camp or they see him in the offseason then I think its very possible that he doesnt get moved because he will look that good. Then you have a log jam 10x worst than what I already talked about

You can probably find his dunks from this season on YouTube.
