yeah. i assume he's appealing just to delay it past the upcoming series (plural).
otherwise, he should count his blessings that its 4 games.

Four games looks to me more like an indictment of Hunter than Lawrie

Couldn't agree more. 4 games is MORE than fair.

Agreed. Maybe they need to bring back the 1999 purge, circa 2012.

Seems a little light, but I suppose Lawrie did have some arguments (that the helmet bounced and that Miller was a complete and total idiot last night). He was fortunate they didn't view it as intentional.

spykelee, good call brother. 4 is very understandable, from the perspective that this punishment is not as severe as some would have thought; he was a first time offender and was sincerely apologetic after the game. he's lucky the helmet did not make solid contact with miller and he's unlucky that it made any contact at all.

anything more than 8 would have been too harsh imo. around 5 games sounded appropriate from the start.

the question is:

a) how long will Lawrie's appeal last i.e. this is just delaying the inevitable, and
b) does it mean that Miller will still be umping the next Jays' game while Lawrie is still playing?

I was really happy that he faced the media after the game. I don't like when teams/players hide after an incident like this. It is better to get it out of the way right away.

a) to appeal a suspension it must be done at the league office in new york...the suspension won't take effect until after the appeal is heard, so who even knows when he'll have to sit.

b) why does it matter if miller is umping tonight's game or not? (which he is). these guys are grown men and will move on and continue doing their jobs. miller's not gonna sulk and refuse to take his position because lawrie is taking the field too. lawrie has mentioned in pre-game that he plans to talk to miller sometime before the game, to presumably squash the beef like men do.

because he decides on the strike zone and borderline calls.

Definitely a relief to hear it's only 4 games after many predicted 8+.

strike zone wasn't a problem til the ninth inning where it was magnified. we wont see it again with the same ump.

Yeah, I was worried MLB would go way overboard by sending a 'Respect the Umps' message to the rest of the league.

agreed, Hunter is going to be watched as closely as Lawrie. Can't afford to look petty, vindictive, etc. Also, stadium security will be on its toes tonight. Could hear Hunter take a lot of razzing. Wouldn't be surprised if some fans get ejected for conduct unbecoming...

Thanks for that, don't know why Hunter stuck in my head.
