clearly wilner is an idiot. no wonder he hasn't transitioned from his post-game show.

The act probably merited 5-7. MLB probably thought that too. Then they took off a few games for Miller's contributing to it. That unusually emphatic strike out call on a high slider was not exactly subtle.

I think he should of got 1 game. I do-not-care, what a soul has to say about this. The umpire should face the exact same fate as Lawrie for taking part in childs play leading up to this. Where is the slap on the hand for the umpire for blowing 2 calls. They are TRAINED PROS! you do not need to be taught how to call balls and strikes. You cannot expect a player to stay calm in a must win type of game when the umpire costs you the win. Also good for Lawrie I would have reacted the same at least he got to vent!

Smh at the terrible call and for people over reacting. Lawries action was a REACTION of the umpires ACTION. Either way 4 games way too many. 1 and done.

I think 5-7 was what I was expecting and they probably went lighter because of the ump's pettiness.

I do think appealing suspensions should have some penalty though. If they can hear his appeal fast enough then fine, but IMO if you appeal it should tack on an extra game for every week you delay (if you drop or lose your appeal of course). I really think the automatic appeal that tries to manage a suspension into a window (most common with pitchers, but if they could get this to road interleague games I'm sure they would) is a gigantic load of crap.

Now, that's probably impossible as it's pretty unfair on a guy with a legit appeal who loses and waited a long time because of scheduling. Really, in the modern age of communications why should it ever take more than 3-5 days to schedule an appeal in the first place?

Still, in a case like this the appeal is such an obvious formality or delaying tactic. What he did can in no way be disputed and by almost universal agreement (well disregarding Kavan's outlier opinion :P) he got off about as light as he could.

I think 4 games is reasonable.
The problem I have is that the Umps are never held accountable. There's a lot of people saying Lawrie should stand up and say he was wrong for throwing the helmet as opposed to being sorry it hit him, and claiming his outburst was wrong to begin with and that there's a supposed code.

When does an Ump like Miller stand up and say I blew the first call, and I'm sorry for making a retaliatory strike call because I felt this young kid showed me up?

Lawrie saw the 3-1 pitch as a ball an started up the line, he didn't say anything to the ump really and came right back. You can even see Rodney moving to say something and then the Ump motions to Rodney, "don't worry, I got this".

He completely escalated the whole thing. Was Lawrie wrong for throwing the helmet? Absolutely but the Ump was wrong too and there was no announcement of a suspension for him.

This unwritten rulebook in baseball is pretty much BS.

on PTI and ATH yesterday there was quite a bit of support for lawrie and critcism of miller. everyone kindve agreed that he should be suspended as he hit the ump with his helmet, it was split on wether it was a totally unlucky shot or whether he threw it in his direction, but all agreed i twas terrible umping and some called it bush league and some said he should be held responsible and disciplined.

I took a stab and guessed it would be "5-6".
4 games seems fine.
