obviously this is more for local sports programming, but kfan does the jazz games too. now it's gonna be on another am station, and now on fm too. i like listening to the games on fm.

Sounds like they'll combine the on air talent between the two shows and cut the fat with everyone else.

Probably a good idea, way too much crap has found it's way onto local radio.

Scotty G is the boss at 1320, so I doubt he's going anywhere unless he decides to just be the boss and take himself off air, and I imagine the rest of these guys will stick around.

Between Patrick Kinihan, Kyle Gunther, Ben Bagley, Sean O'Connell, and Tony Parks I'm guessing at least a few of those guys are gone. I'd hope Jake Scott and Jan Jorgenson are gone, those guys are awful.

Gordon Monson started 1280 the zone because he didn't want to be censored by the Jazz organization. I wonder what he will do with his coveted afternoon drive home slot. I doubt that Jake Scott will be sticking around in that time slot.

I had always assumed the LHM Group owned 1320; turns out they were just operating it. Sounds like the new ownership group of that station isn't giving them the same control so they're buying their own station.

Seems doubtful that 1320 will remain a sports station. I expect the best talent from the three local stations to get distributed between 1280 and 700.

apparently, it is pretty rare for a sports market to even have more than 1 sports station. so for having 3 and supporting 3 for so long seems a pretty good accomplishment for utah, i guess. but fish gotta swim, birds gotta eat. this weeds out the lesser talent i suppose. i bet what talent doesn't stick around for the new miller-1280 station, heads to 700 to do more of their local stuff. and i am sure there will be more than enough grumpy people to want to lease out a new frequency for another sports talk station before too long, anyway.

frankly, i am more excited about having the jazz games consistently on FM. sucked having a random station every other year carry the games, then none at all. 97.5 will move up on my pre-sets.

The biggest concern is that now our only local station is owned by the Miller Group. So we will no longer get any dissenting opinions and everything the Jazz organization does will be reported like it was the most brilliant thing that could've ever happened.

Having 3 stations in a market of a 1.5 million or so is nuts, though we do have some demographics that allow for a more diverse set of options, 3 is too many.

Should help 700 though actually, people who can't stand the 1320 crew will tune in more to Bill Riley who I really think does a hell of a job.

But if you want local coverage from morning until night it sounds like 1280 will now be the only option. I wonder if the new merger station will do away with having Jim Rome on in the afternoon.

I listened to 1320 today, they basically teased that they're going to have different programming on the AM and FM stations. So.. there you go.

Larry H. Miller Communications Corporation Intends to Purchase Two Local Radio Stations
SALT LAKE CITY (May 16, 2012) – Larry H. Miller (LHM) Communications Corporation has signed a letter of intent to purchase the signals, towers and licenses of two Salt Lake City-area radio stations, 1280 (KZNS-AM) of Salt Lake City and 97.5 (KZNS-FM) of Coalville, Utah, from SLC Divestiture Trust I. In addition, Larry H. Miller Communications Corporation is also currently in discussion with Simmons Media Group to obtain its operating agreement for 960 (KOVO-AM), which serves Utah County.

“The purpose of this venture is to formulate the premier radio group in Utah for local and national sports talk shows, as well as live game broadcasts, while also drastically improving our signal strength and clarity,” said Chris Baum, senior vice president of broadcasting for Larry H. Miller Sports & Entertainment. “This purchase will allow us to protect our base by controlling the distribution of the broadcasts for Utah Jazz, Salt Lake Bees and other sports properties.”

No final decisions have been made regarding programming or personnel for these stations and Larry H. Miller Communications Corporation will have no further comment until any transactions have been completed.

Assuming 1320 ceases to be a sports station, I expect 700 will stop carrying Colin Cowherd's show and replace it with its own local morning show featuring some local "personalities." It will probably also get one of the surplus radio guys to work with Bill for the afternoon show.

If the end result of this is Patrick Kinahan leaving the air then I'll be extremely happy. David James + Hans Olsen would be an interesting pair.

My guess is there is a very slim chance of that happening. DJ and PK was killing Hans and OC in the morning, and in the words of Karl Malone, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

For those listeners who can't stand the national media never talking about the Jazz, Utes or BYU, they'll have no choice but to tune into DJ and PK, I'd be shocked if it changed.
