Re: RIP Chuck Brown
Saw Chuck Brown perform with the National Symphony Orchestra at the Capitol last summer. It was an interesting night.
Really, it was the NSO doing Ellington and Sousa, and then a number with Chuck Brown. Then NSO departed and Brown's band came out and did a go-go set. Hella fun.
Sad to hear he passed.

Re: RIP Chuck Brown
Noooo! I saw Chuck on New Years! I mentioned to my cousin how we wanted to see him before it was too late. How true that turned out to be. He looked to be in good shape then. Gave a great performance but I know he was sick shortly after.
RIP to a music legend.

When I worked at Best Buy, we'd occasionally have someone come in and ask "Do you have a go-go section?" My standard response would be "Not really, we just have some Chuck Brown mixed in with the rock." Sad news.

A big loss for music in the DC area. He put on quite an entertaining show.

RIP to a true D.C. legend.

On a side note, I haven't lived in the area in years. I recently tried to find some current go-go - to see where the genre had gone.
Oof. Maybe I didn't find the right bands. But man, the stuff I found on YouTube was *horrible*. Atonal, sloppy, and lacking the grace and smoothness of Chuck's music.

Re: RIP Chuck Brown
The playoffs and Chuck made me think of the old music thread.
My friend mixed Chuck Brown's last couple projects and was set to do another single with him. Over the years, he became tight with the man and deemed him the nicest human he'd ever had the pleasure to meet in his life. The two spent many a night out partying (mostly in VIP sections with a bottle and a blunt). He's got more than a handful of killer Chuck stories. And he's very torn-up today. Through him, I met Chuck once. Cool cat.
Thousands are gathered now in DC in condolence. RIP legend.

Re: RIP Chuck Brown
Hey Fish,
Let's see. Long story short (too late)... I'm still roaming the country for work. On various hotel beds, I wrote one and a half movies (that I now believe will never be produced, despite the umpteen phone calls ardently promising the contrary). I outlined and started a book (that I will never finish). The book is based on a movie short that I wrote (that MIGHT actually be shot). The short is a horror (but poetically told). It is the best thing I have ever written. And the director agreed wholeheartedly, until he started his "edits." Suffice to say, I've fully learned to never trust a syllable from any cog of the Hollywood machina. So, I have zippy faith in any of it ever coming to pass (even as we set dates to shoot the short).
Oh, and my art auction got robbed in Canada. So, I was a hostage for fifteen minutes. First time I had a gun in my face. So, that was new. Took me a month to stop jittering. That incident, and my job in general, was the plot of the half-a-movie. If you lost count, that's four projects that I have utterly wasted my time on.
Besides that, I've been playing as much hold'em and hitting as many shows as I can. Latest: Melvins, Drums, Maps and Atlases, Black Keys (x2), Andrew Bird, No Age, Animal Collective, Death Cab, Buckethead and RHCP.
Thanks for askin'. Hope all is well.
