Non-threadworthy MMA Rumors/Quotes/Tweets, etc.

Post#1 » by REDDzone » Thu May 17, 2012 2:22 pm

How do people like this idea for a thread? I always see little tidbit/quotes/etc of MMA news that I want to post about, but don't because there isn't a thread for it on this board (and it isn't worth making a new thread for).

A good example would be nemesis' Paul Kelly scandal thread.

To get us started: Kos posted on his twitter last night that the UFC had offered him a BJ Penn fight, and he accepted, and is now waiting for BJ's response.

I like it.

I am not a fan of BJ at 170 ever again.

Get him at 155, or what's the point.

I'll watch regardless, but agree that BJ at 170 is nottttt desirable at all for me.

Also like it. Agree with Gold Chain, BJ should fight at 155.

Because the whole "motivated BJ" thing really comes down to this.

At 155, he has to make weight, get his cardio up, really become that killer that he can be.
But at 170 he's still the smallest guy, doesn't have to diet/cut very much weight, terrible cardio and can;t be the guy we all want to see.

I miss 155 BJ Penn so very much. He used to break guys and then lick the blood. Where's that dude?

Nevermind.

As per BJ's twitter:

@joshkoscheck I know it costs a lot of money to live that lavish lifestyle, big house, fast cars & you need big fights but sorry I’m not coming back anytime soon!

Hendricks cleared to fight. Says he'd be down to wait on a shot, or else fight again, doesn't make a difference to him.

Sweet.

Not a bad idea. I'm fine with new threads even for minor stories though. I feel like discussion could get kinda tangled in here, but we'll give it a shot.

I wouldn't be terribly enthralled to see BJ back in the octagon. Has it not been proven that he cannot compete against the elite in either division anymore? He can't beat edgar, he probably couldn't beat Bendo, or Petits and I'm not even sure he beats Maynard. And 170 is a joke. The guy's a legend and all but he just doesn't have the fire left to compete at the highest level anymore, and that's okay. No need to become Matt Hughes. He's proven himself enough.

This was posted on sherdog.com's forums today. Apparently Fedor's already setting up his post MMA life. He's going to be President of this new Russian MMA Federation type thing. Its probably just a ceremonial position where Vadim uses his name to make more money and build his own company but that's not the important thing about this. What's key is that this is probably the final nail on the already pretty much sealed coffin in which all our hopes that he'd fight in the UFC before he retired. Most likely after he kills Pedro Rizzo in June the best we can hope for it a fight with Guram Gushevilli to see if M-1's future Fedor can hang with Fedor himself.

I think he's done at 170, however I believe he can still contend at 155. I don't think he could be beat Bendo or Edgar, but he can beat Maynard, Pettis, Cerrone, Nate Diaz, Jim Miller.

The point for me is, outside of Edgar, I'd want to see any of those fights.

I'd want to see them too, but I don't think BJ wants any part of them unless it's for a title, or a number 1 contender match... and BJ just isn't that close to a title anymore. He isn't one of those guys who loves training and fighting. That ship has sailed. Some guys love fighting and would fight for free. BJ isn't one of them anymore imo. And that's fine, but with that as it is, once he isn't in the elite class, he has no motivation left. I personally, just don't see any real reason for him to come back and essentially be a gatekeeper.

I'll disagree. If BJ defeated any of Maynard, Cerrone, Pettis, or Diaz...he'd be back in a title shot or one fight away so fast our heads would spin. Even with all the losing BJ has been doing lately, he is still the biggest draw on that list. And this is a time where the ufc needs ppv draws with Brock leaving, GSP out, etc. He wouldn't need to run the gauntlet at LW for a shot imo.

WW is a different story.

Fedor announced that he's retiring after his next fight. I don't know if he has anything left, but I still would've liked to see him in the UFC for fanboy purposes.

Jon Jones arrested for a DUI..

http://www.tmz.com/2012/05/19/jon-jones ... ested-dui/

Aside from the actual act being idiotic, he wouldn't look like such a hypocrite if the dude didn't pride himself on having the good guy image.. There's a reason a handful of his peers and people in the know have called him fake..

LOL a recent quote from Jon Jones

“We came up with a strategy to keep it clean and be sponsored by the UFC itself. I’m glad the UFC wanted to work with me as well, and I think that they trust that I’ll never make them look bad. You never have to worry about me with a DWI (driving while under the influence) or doing something crazy,” Jones explained.

Greg Jackson's response: "Well, Jon makes mistakes just like everyone else. Nobody's perfect...except for me."
