Appreciating Chris Bosh

The only person that might feel more validated than the Pacers after Thursday night is none other than a player from the losing side: Chris Bosh.

Since joining the Miami Heat in the summer of 2010, the Heat power forward has absorbed all sorts of harsh criticism from seemingly every corner of the basketball world.

He's soft! He's riding the coattails of LeBron James and Dwyane Wade! He isn't qualified to be in the Big Three!

And yet, what's abundantly clear now is that the Heat might not go anywhere unless Bosh rescues them from this series. Since losing Bosh during Game 1, the Heat have been outscored by 22 points in Games 2 and 3 with Bosh missing in action. The Heat's offense is in disarray and the team turmoil came to a boiling point when Wade, the face of the franchise had to be restrained from the team's head coach on the bench on national television. All with Bosh out of the picture, nursing an abdominal strain that could keep him out for weeks.

Who's riding whose coattails, again?

Unfortunately for the Heat, Bosh's potential rescue isn't likely to happen anytime soon, and there's a chance it might not even happen in this playoffs. What Wade's meltdown and the Heat's 19-point loss on Thursday underlined was the fact that the Heat desperately miss what Bosh brings to the table...

Right, I'm sure the overriding feeling has has right now is "validation" rather than "letting his team down" or "sacrificing a larger role only to come up empty again for a second year"

Lebron and Wade don't know how to play off each other so they rely on Bosh to do most of their scoring. We haven't been able to score 80 points in this series without him

The defense has been fine however.

Though often a punch line and target of ridicule, Bosh thrives in the most important play in professional basketball, the pick-and-roll. When Bosh went down, the Heat also lost one of their greatest weapons in the halfcourt: a simple screen for James or Wade to give them space to work their magic. Bosh has been replaced by non-scorers in Udonis Haslem, Joel Anthony and Ronny Turiaf, and the Heat offense has never looked so clogged.

And UD is said to be complaining about minutes. He's being referred to as a non-scorer.

To get PT you've got to perform.

I don't believe it's so much bosh as it is spacing. the heat don't have a true PF that can hit the midrange jumpshot. Haslem's jumper has gone MIA

I truly feel a guy even like D West wouldn't show a large dropoff for the team even though Bosh is much better. Spacing seems to be the problem, Bosh just happens to be the only good 4/5 on the heat.

Bosh is a combination of shooting efficiency, floor spacing, rebounding, post defense, size, and length. It's all about his presence on the floor in multiple, significant ways.

Bosh really does fit this team.

Maybe if we just got a Center who can rebound.... we'd be fine.

Bosh plays Center at the end of games though and his rebounding annoys me but meh.... I'm never going to complain about Bosh again.

He's more complementary to LBJ IMO. Wade doesn't really set him up like LeBron does.

BOsh also gets the other team's bigs in foul trouble... it helps us a lot then he does open up the lanes for LeBron and Wade.

Man... this sucks.

How many other guys on this team even come close to fitting that description at the PF/C position.

Yup. They're interchangeable which is why when Dwade gets hurt we don't suffer as much but Bosh isn't interchangeable with anybody on this team.

If Bosh is feeling "validation" while his team stands on the brink of tumbling into the abyss then we should ship his ass back to Canada. Thankfully, I think Chris is much less douchey than Haberstroh.

He shouldn't feel validated man. Year 2 of the big 3 could be wasted. That should be pissing him off.

i think heat's EPIC failure after bosh's injury has shut up all his haters doubters.

everybody now realizing he's VERY important to this squad and i don't think ill ever call him soft again... well idk lol

I'm sure Bosh feels miserable his team is struggling without him. That he can't be out there battling during a playoff drive with teammates who've always understood how pivotal he is to their success.

Since he's a human being, I'm sure he's also experiencing a measure of validation. Feelings directed squarely at all the media critics and players throughout the league who, for the last two years, have taken endless personal shots, ridiculed him, and knocked the value of what he brings the team.
