Montreal a dirty team? really? The Timbers were awful.. we were dominating throughout the whole game.. it could've easily been 3-0 in the first half..

1st half was good today, 2nd half was boring and dull. TFC's goalkeeper, and defender saved 3 for sure goals in the first half. TFC decided to play defense all game, and counter maybe 3 times all game? Boring as hell.. Glad TFC sucks, what a terrible team to watch play.

i fell asleep during the RSL-Chicago game. It was on a 2 hour tape delay and boring. We're gonna beat the Sounders on Saturday.

Alessandro Nesta to leave AC Milan

MILAN -- Alessandro Nesta says he will leave AC Milan at the end of the season and consider a move to Major League Soccer.

Nesta has spent 10 years at Milan but, at age 36, says "the high pace of the Italian league, the Champions League and the Italian Cup means that I can't play all the time. And I'm not one to sit and wait on the bench."

Nesta insists he has not signed with any club but adds that he would "very happily" join MLS.

First big trade of the season.

Juan Agudelo's time with the New York Red Bulls is done. Heath Pearce's chance is about to begin.

The Red Bulls sent the emerging star forward to Chivas USA on Thursday for the All-Star defender in the first blockbuster trade of the young season.

The 19-year-old Agudelo, a Red Bulls Academy product, has seen action in just four matches for New York this year after recently returning from knee surgery. He bolsters a Chivas USA attack that has scored a league-low six goals in 2012.

Anyone else think MLS should add the NY Cosmos and cap the league at 20 teams? Or would that cripple the Red Bulls?

I think MLS badly wants to add a second NY franchise but I don't see them capping the league at 20 teams. Traditionally in North American leagues they have 30 teams and I can see in the future that will be what MLS has as well.

It's going to take years but you can't deny whole sections of the map from a team. Florida for example needs a team or two, St. Louis, Atlanta, maybe another team in Canada.

By 2020 the league will likely have 25 teams and will still be growing. Unless of course they go with a second division and introduce relegation. Then I could see a cap of 20 teams for both leagues.

The creation of a second division is more of what I was getting at. They can create a top league with 20 teams and then use the USL/NASL teams to start building a second division. I can't see MLS as a 30 team league without watering down the talent level with expansion drafts every couple of years. As much as we would all like to believe that MLS can be as successful as the European leagues, we've still got another 15-20 years before that will be a definite possibility. Right now, our league is heavily dependent on players from Latin American countries coming up here for bigger paychecks. With the economies of those countries growing rapidly, this may not necessarily be an option 5 years from now.

Montreal Impact sign Italian forward Marco Di Vaio

In convincing Marco Di Vaio to come play for them, the Montreal Impact dreamed big and took the patient route to securing the elite player they had always targeted.

The Impact announced Thursday that they had signed the veteran Italian forward, who became the Major League Soccer expansion team's first designated player.

Di Vaio, who cost Juventus 14 million euros ($18 million Cda) a decade ago, will be available to play once the transfer window officially opens June 27.

"We thought it was a longshot and today we're very proud of this moment because he is one of the players that we wanted from day one," Impact sporting director Nick De Santis said Thursday.

De Santis spoke as renovation and expansion work at Saputo Stadium continued behind him with Di Vaio's No. 9 displayed on a section of the stadium's seats.

"With Marco we're getting someone that has a strong character, that has a strong will to help this club move forward."

The 35-year-old former Italian international agreed to an 18-month contract with the Impact, who have a pair of one-year options to extend the deal.

No kidding. Apparently hoarding the best players in MLS doesn't guarantee that you'll have a good team. I realize that Bruce Arena is considered a legend in American soccer but if he can't win with that roster, he should be relieved of his managerial duties.

legend's kind of a strong word. he definitely wore out his welcome as usmnt coach and i know a lot of people that could be described as thrilled that the galaxy and their 3 dps are doing horribly

DEL PIERO COULD BE LINKED WITH MONTREAL IMPACT

Reports out of Italy suggest that legendary Juventus striker Alessandro Del Piero could be set to sign a contract with the Montreal Impact.

The veteran footballer is available on a free transfer this summer as his career with Juventus draws to a close. According to the Gazzetta dello Sport, Impact owner Joey Saputo recently welcomed Del Piero as a guest at his family home in Miami and the team has the inside edge on landing him.

Del Piero will leave Juventus this summer as their all-time leading goal scorer and appearance holder and has won 19 major honours in his career.
